Title: Cracked screen on 5500
Post by: jcarnie on June 11, 2004, 04:46:03 am
Hi, wondering if someone can point me in the direction of a fix.
My problem is I\'ve just got hold of an old 5500 with a cracked screen. As far as I know it\'s running all original sharp s\'ware, so when it boots up it goes into the \"tap anywhere on the screen to continue\"  needless to say tapping won\'t take me anywhere.
Is there something I can do, flash new rom etc, to override the calibration bits.  I don\'t want to use the touch screen aspects of the PDA as I imagine the rest of the key controls should more than make up.

Appreciate any help.

More than make up? RIIIIIGHT... You can\'t get very far at all without the touchscreen, e.g., you can\'t get past the calibration part. Sorry.

Apage43 is right, there is just no using a pda without a digitizer, even one with a keyboard like the zaurus.

You relay only have 2 viable options

1.  Replace the digitizer.
2.  Sell it for parts and buy something with a good screen

Actually, you could still use it in text only mode.  It makes for a handy console and you should still be able, via the cardctl command, to use networking.
