Title: Swivel Joint on SL-C860
Post by: wmadan on June 11, 2004, 08:59:25 am
I was wondering if anyone feels there is too much play in the screen swivel mechanism when in laptop mode. When tapping the screen with the stylus especially, I have to make sure I don\'t tap too hard or elese the screen will move backwards. Is there any way to tighten this?

Yep, that is a bit of a downside, I tend to hold it in one hand and put a finer behind it to stop it bending back any further, or a sharp tap will do the bis if you don\'t have any support behind it.

Alternatively open it to nearly 180 where it locks in place and will not budge any further back.  I think this is how it\'s supposed to be used.

Sometimes you need to use a stylus but most of the time you can use the keyboard to move around and pick things

I find it ok provided you have not tilted the screen too far back. Tried 2 units and both were consistant, but could be coincidence.

It does depend on how light/heavy handed you are. Have you tried using your little finger to add support whie using the stylus (I mean from the same hand).

I\'m fairly sure it\'s like that for all units (have access to two). It would have been great if the Z had two locking angles - 90 deg and 180 deg (which it already does). Then again, \"if wishes were fishes, we\'d all cast nets\"...

I too think that two locking positions would be good. I can see the hinge getting slacker over time and the screen not staying in the 90 deg (ish) position. I don\'t see any way to adjust it.

Occassionaly I used to wedge a piece paper to keep the screen from slammiing into the lock position when I used the stylus (using a heavier combo pen stylus), but it seems to be holding up better now except when opened very close to the lock position.  I don\'t know why, you\'d think wear and tear would make it slam down easier!

I can imagine that they haven't provided a 90 degree locking position because one particular angle is not very useful to lock the screen in with such a small device.  At least with a laptop the screen is in front of you; with the Zaurus you're nearly above it.
