Title: Questions from a prospective buyer
Post by: Nikkos on June 12, 2004, 10:59:20 pm
Hello All

I\'ve been looking at buying a C860 for some time now, and I\'m about to make the plunge in a few weeks.

I\'m trying to decide which rom I should run. I\'m a devout \"GO\" player, and it\'s important for me to be able to be able to record the games I play at the local club. If I understand correctly, the 5500 had a go program built in. But I don\'t know if this is available for the 860 or if it even has the ability to save games as SGF files.

I have seen that Cgoban and Gnugo have been ported over to the pdaXrom. Can anyone tell me how stable they are,  and how cgoban looks/works  in portrait mode?

I\'m also interested in a program to track finances, along with the usual PDA apps such as an address/phonebook, calendar, etc.

Is pdaXrom ready for prime-time? Are there other roms that suit my needs?

How much risk do I run of turning my new Zaurus into a brick by switching roms?

Thanks in advance!
Nikkos

For the life of me, I can't figure out go.  I've been playing chess for decades, and I've read and tried go totorials...  I can't even tell what's surrounded and what is not.  Ie:  I think I'm surrounding something, but really I'm on the inside.

anyway, I've tried the cgoban, it seems to work... however, I can't figure out the timing for the game, so the computer always takes 2-3 minutes to move.. and I get bored -- when I play gnu-go in text mode, it seems to move almost right away.

I only would use pdaXrom now.  It seems really solid -- at least to me.
