Read some of the other threads about this, eg \"Spencer gone . . .\"

There are reports it will return.

Didnt saomeone (proto ?) say that the forum was going to be back on on Monday, according to Sharp ?
Well I still dont see it back on.

So much for Sharp\'s \'dont tell\' attitudes and insider leaks.

Give them a chance. Depending on where the person is in America, who will throw the switch, they might not even be in work yet.

Maybe they got hacked again and this time was even worse than before.

Still not up, I am wondering if it is going to happen!

If Sharp was going to bring it back up, they could have done it immediately after they were notified that it was down. It doesn\'t make sense for them to wait so long.
Even if they wanted to make changes, they could have left the old web site running until they were ready.

Although this board serves as a useful replacement, it was reassuring to know that zaurus.com/dev/board was being monitored by Sharp employees (or should that be employee), and some of what was said may have filtered back to Sharp management.

If something had filtered back to managment through the feedback of the old devnet forums, I suspect we\'d have less of a SNAFU right now...

Guys, have you ever tried to do \'dig\' or \'nslookup\' to zaurus.com? The DNS is down by the way... Who knows anything about site itself?...

I think that\'s because the zaurus.com host served as it\'s own DNS if you look in the whois records.

theKompany seems to have a few contacts in Sharp saying it would be back up Monday. Of course deadlines can slip.

If it was another hack attack then they couldn\'t put the server back up until they found out how it was hacked and how to prevent the attack. If that is the case then that would be a reasonable explanation for the large amount of downtime. zaurus.com has been hacked before.

But if it is simply because they were changing their focus or the way the site worked, then it was pretty poor of them to take the whole server down or off the web while they made the changes.

However, the zaurus.com/dev/board did have an announcement on it from Spencer saying that sometime soon the board would be down for maintenance as they were taking the whole server offline for a few days.  I know it\'s now more than a few days, but the announcement topic had mentioned a planned downtime.

So, it may be simpler than a hack.

That particular annoucement was several months old!

Still no sight of the dev board.  Wow, I would have never thought a board going missing would get me this worked up.  lol.  Maybe I\'m just excited to see the new ROM.    Even without Sharp I know this platform will live on through the great developers we have.  Thanks guys.

In a previous post someone mentioned that they had contacted Sharp, and that
te dev board would be restored on Monday. Unfortunately the post seems to
have been lost.
Could who ever it was please try their contact at Sharp again, to try and find out
what is really going on, or are the dev boards gone for good?
Thanks
Clive

With the uncertainty of the dev board is the any way the new ROM can be posted elsewhere?  I understand the issues faced with licensing and such, but really the only people who would be using it must already own a Z and therefore agreed to the licensing when the product was purchased.

I\'ve noticed that the comments on this site are more \"tame\" than those on Zaurus.com.  Is this fear* or appreciation that is keep the tone down?

*fear of sharp pulling out of every market but Japan that is.

You must have missed the comment some guest made about proto... totally uncalled for and got many flames.  Unfortunately the zug time warp ate that thread..

Anyway, I can\'t see any reason for someone to *fear* anything about posting stuff on this forum.  People should feel comfortable to speak their mind.  Not everyone will agree with the opinions of others...

Besides, I don\'t think anyone at Sharp reads this forum or even the Sharp devnet forums for that matter.  The only person from Sharp that read the forums was Spencer, and now that he\'s gone, I\'m sure any eyes and ears that we once had is now gone.

I would also say \"civilized\" rather than \"tame\". One factor may be that people over here feel less dependent on Sharp, and therefore more secure...

Wrong choice of words on my part.  Civilized would be better.  I missed the proto discussion pre-time warp.

It just seems like fewer personal attacks and general Sharp bashing was going on.  Its nice.  For all Sharp\'s mistakes with this platform, the community is pretty awesome.  Almost always helpful.

I got to know that on the other forums BEFORE I bought a Zaurus.  Sure, problems were discussed but workarounds were offered as well.  I have been amazed at the contributions by members of this community.

I think that the platform will stay viable even if Sharp leaves it.

However, sometimes the bile being pushed out kind of took me back.  If I were new and didn\'t have that previous good experience, I would wonder why picking up a zaurus on e-bay would even be worth it.

It seems to have toned down.

These forums are nice.

Also, by \"fear\" I meant the reactions to Spencer leaving and the site being down.  I have to admit that I paniced at first (I had a pressing problem and I couldn\'t get to the main source of my support (the community forums on zaurus.com)).  Then calmer heads prevailed and I popped over here.  Asked a question and got the answer I needed.

No more worries from me.  The community is alive and well and that\'s all that really mattered to me anyway.  With no Zaurus users in my area or at work... I have to trade tips and tricks with someone after all.
