Title: "Anonymous memory" on my SL-C860
Post by: roguetrooper on June 17, 2004, 05:26:53 am
I have been given an old Sandisk card (64MB © 1999) so it\'s quite old.

It was given to me for free as it didn\'t work anymore in some guys Nikon CoolPix Digital Camera.

However... it mounts OK when used in a CF PCMCIA adaptor on my PC and I can use it normally - so I assume it\'s probably not total toast.

But when I place in the C860 I get an \"anonymous memory\" card inserted message, I can\'t seem to mount the device (and it doesn\'t automount of course, /etc/fstab has an entry for the cf card)

Anyway I can mount this thing? Or is it\'s destiny a life under Win$ XP?

Try:

\'mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/cf\'

If this doesn\'t work grab an fdisk ipk and install it and try running fdisk on the card.

Hi
As I mentioned, /etc/fstab has this entry for the card, shouldn\'t it attempt an automount?
fdisk sounds interesting? Does it detect unmounted (but connected) devices?
I\'m at work - the card is at home - I\'ll try your suggestions when I get home!
Cheers

if you try mount on the command line it will give you more info about whay it\'s not mounting.

fdisk allows you to look at/alter the partition table for a device.

\'fdisk /dev/hda\' (note the lack of a 1 on the end of the hda)

Just says \"unable to open /dev/hda\" when trying fdisk, and the device won\'t mount with the information \"No Such device or address\".

cardctl status gives just \"3.3V 16-bit PC Card\"

CHeers

PS. Hate to say this but it also works in my workmates Pocket PC device!
