Hi,
My Zaurus 5500 seems to be completely dead. When plugged in via the AC adaptor none of the LED\'s light. Full reset doesn\'t work, also tried leaving it without a battery for a few days with no change. I checked the AC adaptor with a voltmeter and it\'s fine... Anyone got any ideas what could be wrong?

Did you do anything to it beforehand? Failed flash? Left it uncharged for a long while?

Re-Flash it, just for the hell of it.

Can you charge the battery externally first?
Have you tried running it off of the charger alone?

I\'m not trying to be a smart alec or anything but did you flip the battery switch back on. Not sure if this would cause the same symptoms because my 5500 is with my wife but I\'ve been tripped up by this once before.

My 5500 is also dead. I was just working with it normally, and the battery was fine (I think) when it turned off, and wouldn't turn on again. I got it to turn on 2 more times, but for possibly the last time. My Z seems to have all the symptoms described above. I emailed the Sharp people, but I frankly don't expect a response. Mine is refurbished, and I've had it practically less than a month.

My Z works again, though for how long, I don't know. It seemed as if the battery was drained, probably by leaving Opie player on. Is your battery dead? For a while, I wasn't even getting LED lights, then after frequent resetting, the battery light came on and stayed on for a long time. I would check the battery or get a replacement. It seems as if when the battery is drained, it wont turn on, even if its plugged in.
hope my melodrama helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the ideas! I tried reflashing it but that doesn't seem to work (none of the LED's come on), and running on the charger alone doesn't seem to have helped either.
I just checked the battery and it doesn't seem to be currently holding any charge. Is it definitely necessary for a battery to be working in order for the Zaurus to turn on even if plugged into the mains?
What happened exactly was that I had not used the Zaurus for a fair few months, I then plugged it into the mains and it seemed fine. Later I unplugged it, used it a little while on battery power and then and switched it off. After that it failed to show any signs of life...

Yes,
It sounds like you need a new battery, or the charging circuit has gone west..

My 5500 is doing something similar. If I leave it sit, plugged in or not, overnight or even a couple of hours, It will not turn back on. At this point, I can do a hard reset, then I have to flash it to get it to boot again. This started happening after one of my ferrets tugged on the cord, and the unit hit the floor from about 3 feet up. Could the internal battery be toast, or could there be a wire loose or fuse blown or something. I'm kind of afraid to open the unit for fear I will destroy it completely.

I seem's to me that a while back I read through another thread about someone that left a Z in a drawer for several months got a one time charge and poof no lights not screen... I think he ended up needing to clean the contacts off and reinsert the battery and let it charge for a long time... (the lights will not come on if there is no battery to charge or if the battery is fully charged so if the contacts are not making contact it thinks there is no battery)
Good Luck
