Title: format harddrive, reinstall os?
Post by: asdavies on December 08, 2003, 08:13:02 pm
I have had some probs connecting a Symbol Spectrum24 wifi cf to a zaurus 5600.  I stupidly, installed a 5500 driver (from myzaurus.com) on the 5600 and now the wifi card is not even acknowledged (no little green light, or cf sign down the bottom right of zaurus screen).

I tried updating the 5600 rom from myzaurus.com.  I was successful, but it only updates existing applications etc without deleting earlier stuff.  eg.  other applications I\'ve installed prior to updating rom, are  still there.  Conqequently, the card still doesn\'t work.

How do i do the equivalant of format hard drive and do a fresh install of rom?  I would actually like to restore the factory one (I have the original cd), as the guy I bought the zaurus and specturm 24 card off (second hand) claims that the card should work perfectly out of the box.  So I\'m trying to recreate those initial conditions.

Thanks!

Didn\'t an uninstall and reboot fix it?

In any case, to do a full reset on a 5600

1) Flip the battery cover switch on the back from \'Normal Operation\' to \'Replace Battery\' and back again.
2) Hold down OK and tap On/Off, keeping hold of the OK button
3) From the menu that eventually appears select \'Format\' and follow the on-screen instructions.

No uninstalling didn\'t do the trick.

But formatting the flash did though, so thanks for that.

I also found out why I couldn\'t connect to the network.  After setting up the network settings, I figured that the z5600 would connect automatically to the network upon inserting the wifi card (like my win98 laptop).  I didn\'t realise I had to press the little globe icon on the taskbar to establish a connection first.  Very dumb of me.  Anyway now surfing with the best of them

Thanks for your help
