Title: Help with ROM update (any type)
Post by: Anonymous on December 09, 2003, 08:22:28 pm
I am currently running the sharp 3.10 rom, however whenever I restart my Z after installing an app the system hangs. So, I have been trying to flash with the 3.13 Rom in an attempt to fix the problem. However when I try to flash the mail and power lights will turn on, and in 5 seconds they will go off again. I tried a new download of the sharp rom, A Kompany rom and sharp 2.4 ROM. All of them had the same problem. Iny advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
J

It sounds like a problem with either your memory card or the files.

Some things to keep in mind:

1. While it normaly shouldn\'t be a problem, having extra files on the card \'can\' sometimes cause a problem, so if there\'s extra junk on the card, try removing it.

2. You can only flash using a CF card.  Flashing from SD is not possible.

3. The card must be formated Fat16, NOT 32, not ext2, not ext3, not ntfs, not anything else, only Fat16 (also called vfat by some linux distros)

4. When flashing with an initrd.bin and zImage, you usualy need to rename them.  THey almost always have a bunch of extra version information in the filename that needs to be removed.  the names need to be initrd.bin and zImage EXACTLY, notice there is NO file extension on the zImage file.

5.  You should always flash with the power plugged in.

I installed the SL-5500 v3 Zaurus OS by running the setup program from Windows.

From the SL-5500 v3 Upgrade Instructions:
Launch the setup.exe program

Thanks guys,
I figured it out my self about 20 min after posting. The formatting of the card was ntfs?, not sure how or why it was changed, I\'ll blame windows XP. At any rate now onto the next challange getting Opie Apps to install from CF.
Thanks
