Title: Installing Icons on C860
Post by: ContinentalOp on July 07, 2004, 06:07:30 pm
Anyone know how to go about this? I'm still using the Sharp ROM (1.40) and I'm not sure.

Would it be easier if I flashed the C860 with the PDAXROM? And, if so, how do I install new icons then?

/I apologize ahead of time for the newbie questions.

Your icons (actually almost all graphics too) live in /home/QtPalmtop/pics and /home/QtPalmtop/pics144. Most of them on the default rom are symlinks to /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/pics and /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/pics144 respectively.

To replace an icon, remove the symlink and copy your icon to /home/QtPalmtop/pics144.
To add an icon, just copy it to /home/QtPalmtop/pics144 and edit your .desktop to use the new icon.

Reboot to see the changes (actually there are other ways such as qcop QPE/System "restart()" and opening tab manager, exiting with OK rather than cancel.)

I've replaced most of the default icons with others and am currently in the midst of doing it yet again with noia kde icons, I'll post pics once I'm happy with the results.

OT - why is it that KDE has such a large amount of great looking icons but gnome doesn't seem to? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks Stubear (and thanks to Emperor who was kind enough to reply to my PM.) You guys are great.

I'm still learning how to use the terminal to move files around. Is there any good GUI file manager for Qtopia?

Try Tree!Explorer (http://hpcgi2.nifty.com/taku2001/zau/texplorerqt/top_en.cgi) - it's the best file manager I've tried on the Z (and I've tried a lot )

I'll agree with Stu on this, the version I have is not fully English, sometimes you get square boxes in lieu of Japanese characters, but it's an excellent filemanager, a bit windowzy but excellent.

Padish_Emperor,

Try removing the treeexplorer.qm file in /home/QtPalmtop/i18n/ja/, it holds all the translations for Japanese and if it's not there the app is forced to run in English. This is the secret to my hand converted C760 ROM - don't tell anyone
