If I wanted to install the Sharp 5500 ROM for my C860 how would I do this? I mean, I've downloaded the 5500v31c.zip file, etc. but the only thing I can figure is that it expects you to be able to sync with your computer to change the ROM. My *whole* problem, and why I want to try installin gthis over cacko is that my dagnab C860 won't sync with my PC!
Any ideas?
thanks

You can't install a 5500 ROM on a C machine. Don't try.
There are C machine ROMs available, but I was fiarly sure that the Cacko ROM was the best of the Sharp based fare. What is the problem with your syncing?
Perhaps try OZ (different syncing method to the Sharp ROMs).
Other than that, no ideas,
Si

You need the C860 USB driver. Once you install it, you will be able to sync with the 5500 PC (I repeat, PC-WINDOWS) software.
I cannot find it in download section, but PM me with your email and I will mail it to you.

! eeek ! I thought my eyes had packed up and gone south.
Good heavens man! Listen to lardman - DO NOT TRY IT.
The 5500 is wholly different machine, different hardware, processor and more importantly a different ROM, if you try you may brick your machine - but you will get an attractive paperweight.
What are you trying to do, do some sync thing with a Windows PC? The Zaurus can do that quite happily, you need to find the instructions and follow it to the letter, carefully. I set up a Z for a friends Windows machine once (before I converted him to Linux) and it worked with Outlook with no problems at all, you can even use Intellisync if I recall. I think I didn't use the CD files, I downloaded stuff from the net.
You'll find tons of advice and howto info here, have a search, post some questions, don't kill your Z just to make it 'sync' with some PC.
Good luck with it.
