Title: what feed to use with sl5500_cacko?
Post by: tripolar on July 30, 2004, 05:27:11 pm
Hello All
I installed the sl5500 cacko rom last night. so far so good. I went to http://www.spy.org/zaurus/public/ (http://www.spy.org/zaurus/public/) and used a feed url from there in "Package Manager" in zaurus. I updated then chose several packages to install. One or two installed successfully though most failed. I am wondering what feed would be most appropiate for my zaurus which is now running sl5500_cacko_beta-2.4.18 rom?Sorry if this is stupid question but after checking out all the different roms I am confused- wondering if packages from open zaurus, qtopia, opie, sharp will work & install smoothly on this.
Thanks

Cacko is based on the latest Sharp ROM so any Sharp or Qtopia package ought to work. OZ/Opie packages can be made to work but it will take more effort (and they are probably in an incompatible ipk format - 'cos your ROM only supports the inefficient format ;-)).

lardman-
i recently moved back to sharp (tkc actually) rom ....i was using OZ 3.3.5....i had purchased a tkc application and couldn't get it to install .....i thought it was because OZ used opie instead of Qtopia? the actual error message was something about there being no architectur defined...........

Yes, the latest versions of ipkg have become a bit more picky. This can normally be fixed by unpackaging the app and adding an extra entry to the 'control' file.

Sorry I can't tell you what off the top of my head but I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can post some more info.
