Hello,
I'm having problems getting wireless connectivity with a Linksys WCF12 card in my SL-5500. I've followed all of the steps in the manual to enable wireless, but I still can't connect. I'm using ROM version 2.38. There seems to be some discussion about needing to change a config file manually, but I couldn't find anything specific to my ROM. Any help would be appreciated.

Which card and router are you using ??
I would turn off WEP and allow 5500 to connect to any device.
Also, I found that if the router is on channel 11 (for example) then you need to change the 5500 network to be AD HOC to enable channel field to be editable, then change channel to 11 then change back to 5500 back to INFRASTRUCTURE.
Once WEP and channel are straigntened out, then tell the 5500 the exact NAME of the network and have the router stop broadcasting it...then make sure everything still works,
Then last turn on WEP and enable same ey and again make sur all is okay.
Get everything working then worry about non-brodcasting and WEP and lastly MAC addresses if you want to be real secure.

I have a WCF12 card and I _thought_ that I had no connection and learned that all I had to do was click on the little crossed-out world that shows up on the taskbar and then click "connect". I don't know if this is what your problem is, but it worked for me

I'm using a LinkSys WCF12, 802.11b wireless card.
I am trying to connect to a university network so I don't have access to the network/router settings. I know the ESSID, and I know that WEP is not enabled.
Unfortunately, I don't see any crossed out world on the taskbar.
There are two other things I've noticed that seem a bit odd but may or may not be related. First, in the "Network & Sync" settings I have added a "LAN - TCP/IP" service with no proxies and "obtain TCP/IP Information Automatically" (all correct for my network), but on the "Current" tab it doesn't list my TCP/IP service, it only says "This is the state of your running network services". Second, I don't get any kind of acknowledgement from the 5500 when I insert my card. The green "link" light comes on on the card itself, but the 5500 doesn't do anything that I can tell.

Also, the network I'm am trying to connect to uses several different channels in different areas of the building, so it would be nice not to have to lock into a single channel. I can find out which channels are used and switch manually if I have to, but I'd prefer to avoid that.

Oh, I just noticed you are using the older ROM... I have no experience with this... when I got my Z I just Flashed directly to 3.10 and when I inserted the wfc12 card it just worked after I added the wireless connection in "network". It is possible that you may have to do some configuration, but that is beyond the little bit that I have learned so far I would suggest upgrading to the newer ROM, but I don't know how much work you have put into it. Also, and I am not a wifi expert, I thought that channels were more for peer-to-peer adhoc connections. Your configuration, if indeed a standard "hotspot" connection, may need to be set to "infrastructure".

If I recall, you have to have the 3.10 ROM for the 5500 for the wcf12 to "just work" otherwise you have to set up the driver profile in the wlan-ng.conf (I think) file.

The link posted above is the what I used to get my wcf12 card working.
