Title: Hello All
Post by: Dr.HerbertWest on August 02, 2004, 04:35:13 am
I just got a cl-700 the other day. All I have to say is well worth the money.  I have a Spectrum 24 Wireless CF card. It was working fine today but when I got to my friends. I he was messing around with it and now it does not load the driver or show up under eth0. I was also wondering if any of you guys had for a good priced sd card. Or is ebay the best option?

I would avoid eBay if you plan on buying a big card (512MB+). I had two, repeat two, cards fail and would have been out ~$200 (USD) if not for the store's return policy.

I've had good experiences buying stuff from pricewatch.com where electronic retailers (e-tailers) compete to offer you the lowest possible price.

Dr. West,

I'm assuming that your SL-C700 has some form of English conversion on it being provided either by mods to the stock SHARP ROM or by using a distribution such as Cacko.

If you are simply using Cacko then I would suggest that you simply follow the ROM installation procedure again and allow the ROM to format the user partition.

If you are using a stock ROM with english mods then your supplier may have provided a 'RAM backup' (actually a backup of the user partition of the ROM) that you may restore to get the English conversion back on following an erase of the user partition. If you don't have this and you want to maintain use of the Sharp ROM then you will probably have to follow one of the threads on these forums about manually performing a UK conversion.

Essentially with the Sharp ROM you can reset the user partition and return the unit to defaults by using the service menus. I bought by SL-C860 from ShirtPocket.co.uk and they provide info on how to do this on their forums.

Probably the most useful thing to do when you have what you consider to be a virgin ROM with English conversions is to perform a NAND Backup so that you can use the NAND Restore to bring back the original ROM with conversions at a later stage. Again ShirtPocket provide info on how to do this.

It is worth noting that you technically invalidate your warranty if you cause damage while accessing the service menus so be careful.

Hope this helps.
