Does anyone know where I can download Kanjidict in a format usable on the zaurus? I've downloaded the Edict file from http://www.wbcd.org/zaurus/guide_teil7.html (http://www.wbcd.org/zaurus/guide_teil7.html) which enables me to look up word definitions within zten but I'd like to also install Kanjidict which would enable me to look up Kanji definitions too (I assume).
I know Kanjidict is built into Kanji Nirvana but on my C700 there's a bug https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...wtopic=6147&hl= (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6147&hl=) and I thought a work around would be to install Kanjidict into zten which works really well and has comparatively low memory requirements, that way I could look up both single kanji and words in one application, correct me if I'm wrong.
From what I've read online it seems that dictionary files have to be in a specific format to be usable on the Zaurus and I've searched everywhere in google but can't find a zaurus usable copy.

You'll have to convert kanjidic into fpwing (sp?) format as they have done with edict and other dictionaries for zten.
There is a link from the zten hompage to a site that has scripts to convert edict to zten format - maybe yuo can use that

Best solution I've got, I'll let you know how it goes.

If you have any success, please post how you did it. I've been cracking my brain trying to convert a text file to epwing format. No luck.
Hope you'll find out how...

Sorry, I'm giving up on this, I've spent a few hours on it but nothing works. I don't know if you're aware of http://zaurus.biojapan.de/zaurus.html (http://zaurus.biojapan.de/zaurus.html) where there's some informaton on converting text files to Epwing recognisable format for Zaurus but I've tried everything with zero results.
The problems are that some of the software and web sites are in Japanese so you need to run them through a translation site, also the conversion software is windows only and I'm running windows 98 under emulation on MacOS and I dont think Windows 98 is clever enough to support Japanese text formats outside of Microsoft only products.
http://zaurus.biojapan.de/zaurus.html (http://zaurus.biojapan.de/zaurus.html) even has kanjidict files converted and ready but I downloaded them and installed exactly as indicated and they don't work. Conversely, all the files from http://www.wbcd.org/zaurus/guide_teil7.html (http://www.wbcd.org/zaurus/guide_teil7.html) work exactly as indicated, consistently and the instructions are clearer.

Yes, I've been to that site before, and checked it again after you mentioned it.
But I think it talks about converting txt to pdic format not to epwing, no?
However, there might be a way to get kanjidic still.
There is a pdic zaurus software. It's called Pdic3, you can get it at the bottom of this page (http://enjoy.pial.jp/~mab/zaurus/sl/soft_other/index.html). The conversion mentioned on the biojapan site seems to work, I converted a short text file to pdic format.
However, the problem is, when you run pdic3 on the SL-C760 somehow the top part of the java window is miniscule, so you can't enter text, and I can't check if it can search in the dictionary. It looks like this [img]http://ShiroiKuma.com/peiji/images/01.png\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]
I've already mailed the author of the program, will see if he helps.
Or perhaps it's a java config thing, maybe someone can help us here.

Sorry, I thought PDIC and Epwing were the same, I'd not heard of these formats before. I was sent this link http://openlab.ring.gr.jp/edict/fpw/ (http://openlab.ring.gr.jp/edict/fpw/) don't know if there's anything there that might interest you? It's in Japanese again, I run it through an online translator as it's quicker for me to interpret. Certainly there's a lot of information there about the Epwing format and I'm sure some info on conversion scripts.
Also I see from your screen shot you have the JLPT vocabulary Application. I downloaded it and tried it, it installed from the IPK but for some reason wouldn't open, it just hangs when I click it, your's I take it was OK? I'm on a C700 standard japanese sharp Rom.
-
Yes, I had the same problem with JLPT. I've since identified that the reason for me was that I had the Jeode ipk installed. Now that I only have the personal-profile-for-zaurus (i.e. Java) installed and didn't install Jeode everything works fine.
-
That's interesting, but a bit beyond my experience. Can you direct me somewhere where I can find out how to uninstall Jeode and replace with Java? Sounds hopeful. Do you find the JLPT app. useful? I'm putting in for the test in December.
-
Go to Control panel and select Uninstall software. Check to see if you there is a package called Jeode... If there is one, uninstall it.
You can then install java, it's on the CD you got with your zaurus, it's called personal-profile-for-zaurus.
Later.

Oh dear, there's no sign of it on CD's maybe because it was an import but I found it on Sun's site, downloaded it and it tells me it won't run without the file libfloat and guess what, Sun's link to libfloat is dead and a google comes up with five results linking to the same dead link. Java, nowonder it has such a bad name.
