Hi,
I flashed my SL-5500G to OZ 3.3.5.
When I connect it via USB to my W2k machine my Personal Firewall (Kerio) reports that there is a "SL Series networking device" at IP address 169.254.38.56.
Basically it's good that it's recognized by W2k, but I am wondering why it's connected to that IP. Connected to that IP, Intellisync (Intellisync for SL Version 1.43G) won't sync my data with my PC. I think my Z and my PC don't find each other.
Using SHARP's 2.38G ROM it connects to 192.168.129.201 and Intellisync works fine with Outlook and/or Palm Desktop.
I've read a bunch of posts in the ZUG forums and at http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/ (http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/), but couldn't find an answer to my "IP oddity".

That's a ZeroConf address which is 'supported' by 2k and XP (and most new Linux distros for that matter, oh and Mac - Rendezvous). This occurs as the PC is looking for a dhcp server and can't find one.
You'll need to alter the network settings on your 2k box to get it to work.

Hi Si, thanks for your prompt reply!
When I connect my Z 5500 to my 2k PC, it's connected via a "SL Series (NDIS 5)" LAN connection. So, I went to the settings of this LAN connection and altered its properties to the following: under TCP/IP I changed from dynamic IP to static IP (IP: 192.168.129.201; Subnet: 255.255.255.0; Gateway: 192.168.129.200).
After rebooting 2k, my Kerio Personal Firewall then reported that there's a new "SL Series networking device" at 192.168.129.201. Well, that looks like an improvement to me (remember: old IP/ZeroConf was 169.254.38.56 before).
But still no syncing (via Intellisync) nor SSH when using 192.168.129.201 as the Z IP-address from my PC.
On my Z under "Network Settings" I set up "Ethernet (usbd0)" with the same settings as above (IP: 192.168.129.201; Subnet: 255.255.255.0; Gateway: 192.168.129.200).
And on my Z under "Security Settings" --> Tab "Sync" for "Accept sync from network" I set "Any", and for "Select your sync software" I set "IntelliSync".
Any ideas?
Frank.

ehem, well... *cough*
changing Z's IP under "Network Settings" to "192.168.129.1" (subnet: 255.255.255.0; gateway: 192.168.129.0) finally made it possible to establish a connection via "IntelliSync" (qtnet.exe) from 2k to Z.
dunno though why it defaults to 192.168.129.201 on Z after flashing OZ and booting it for the first time...
changing my PC's IP as done and described at the beginning of this topic was also necessary, i think.
just my final comment on this for other ppl who may encounter this prob.
peace,

The problem you had before was that you'd set the IP addresses of the Z and the PC to the same thing. The standard IP addresses are:
Z: 192.168.129.201
PC: 192.168.129.200
However as you've found out, as long as they are on the same subnet it will work with anything.

Si, thank you for pointing this out to me.
I think I ran into this problem because of Intellisync's default communication setting, which was 192.168.129.201 after installing it on 2k.
OZ 3.3.5's defaulted its USB Ethernet Interface (usbd0) to the same values.
Additionally, OZ 3.3.5 confused me by comming up with IP 169.254.38.56 when I connected my Z to my PC.
Thanks for your help! ;-)
