Hello everyone,
yesterday I was messing around with my 5500 (just finished flashing my newly compiled opie-image with OE ) trying to configure my d-link BT card when it suddendly hung. I turned it off, pressed the reset button, plugged in the AC directly (thinking it might have been a dead battery even though at the moment it hung it was in the cradle) and then tried to turn it on, but no luck though.
What is weird is that the battery charge light comes on for about 10 seconds and then it shuts off, which has never happened before. I even tried a re-flash with and without the battery (but with the ac plugged in of course) and it seems to work since both mail and battery light stay on for a good 5 minutes. I've also replaced the battery with an old one that I had, but it shows the same symptoms.
Last thing i tried was removing the cf card, the sd card and the battery and letting it sit overnight, but so far nothing has changed.
Any ideas on what it could be? Should I perhaps try to re-flash with another image?
Thanks,
DJ-pushbutton

Same thing just happened to me while flashing the 3.3.6 with Opie 1.1.4. This was a coworker's. He let me borrow it to test some other roms before I move to a new one on mine. Well, I guess I won't be moving to anything now that I'm going to have to give him mine. I'm so pissed right now, I just don't know what to say.

Haha! Being the stubborn bastard that I am, I decided to keep playing around. No matter how many times I tried Hentges, it just wouldn't turn on. I had resigned myself to no more Z. Well, I decided to try one last thing. I d/l-ed the 3.2 stable OZ and flashed with that. It is booting as I type this! So, DJ, try flashing with another ROM to see if that fixes it. If this doesn't go totally right, I'll post more with a final damage report, but right now it's looking like I'm bacck in action.

The 1.1.4 Rom from Hentges is a testing rom. You can get the 1.1.3 and then update the kernel and pcmcia_cs.
But this flash thing making me worried. Please download from the hentges site, not from the openzaurus site (they named it 3.3.7-pre3), if you dont want download corruption of the initrd.bin. The files on the hentges site are packed in tar archives. Please check also md5 to go sure.
About the flashing: I am flashing a third years old 5500 a couple of times/day for testing and it is still not bricked. So if there is an accident on flash, just flash again and if the rom is somehow corrupt flash another one.
Cheers,
Sam

The charge lite portion seems familular to my post about battery charge. My flash seems stable, however the charging anomaly is disconcerting. I have a second 5500; I will check the battery and the charging.
