Title: Kathrin 1.1.0 RC2 on 750 - Tips
Post by: dillera on August 18, 2004, 08:21:56 pm
So after trying about 30 flashes, it works perfectly if you create a root of 45 megs on a 750.

Any larger and it won't work. Smaller and you won't have much fun.

If you repartition to 45 megs, then it works flawlessly, YMMV. You can repartition under the NAND Utilities Option in the new Installer.

NEW TIP: Suspend: Suspend with the "Suspend" command in the Start menu. resume with the ADDRESS key. Using the power button causes some loop that I can't stop- Z wakes and sleeps, wakes and sleeps.

One thing I noticed, regarding the reboots: if you are rebooting and have to get back to the Boot Menu, say for instance, after you've repartitioned root... you hit Enter when it asks and it starts to reboot. If you wait till the screen dims and push the OK key, you can pop right into the Boot Menu and don't have to pull the battery. This saved me a lot of time.

correct...

I tend to use the "ok" toggle button by the power... but, ya, you don't have to
pull the battery.

I wonder if  a verbose boot would help. The first time I flashed I thought it hung on the penguin with cursor flashing. I may have been too quick to pull the battery & reboot. I'm guessing the first boot intails generating the ssh keys and perhaps other time consuming things. With a verbose boot users could tell if things are progressing (adds to the cool-factor in my book anyway  )

Agreed, verbose boot would be much nicer.

The other issue, related to the root partition size, is whether it's possible to see the warning messages which flash up on the console (underneath the graphics) when using updater.sh?

With various sized partitions there were some messages which came up which might have been useful for me to work out why it wasn't working. The other option is to not let users create partitions which are too big or too small (why do we have this odd limit on the C750 anyway??) depending on their machine.
