Title: whoo hoo - WCF12 connectivity - (bug)
Post by: b2bpro on August 19, 2004, 10:32:39 am
This may also be a bug report - I don't know where to submit them though.

I got my Linksys WCF12 working and connected to the internet on my 860 using the RC2.

I used the Lan & Wifi applet and set wireless to use my essid.  However when I did a iwconfig everything looked ok except the essid was blank

I had to do it manually

iwconfig eth0 essid XXXX
ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd eth0

(I don't know if that last command was needed - I was going according to an old post)

Now I've got connectivity so I can convert from tkc.

Strange :-) Should never happen.. Does you essid contain "special characters"?

nothing odd just a number followed by 3 characters.

I tried entering it a couple of times in the lan & wifi program, but it just wouldn't follow through to the iwconfig.

It was fine in the lan&wifi app.  If i entered it, saved, exited and went back in, it would be there on the screen.   Just not when doing an iwconfig.

Just so you know:

I had flashed the RC2 and the first thing I did was try to connect.  I didn't change anything else.  In the lan&wifi app all I did was unselect the checkbox to use the "any" essid and then entered the essid for my wireless router.  I didn't change anything else (ie i did not turn on wep, or unselect the dhcp or any other check box).  Also, I didn't save the config under a new name, so it was saved under "default".

Is there any other info you'd like to help track this down?  I know its hard to find problems when they aren't in front of you, so I'm happy to do any testing you might think of.

P.S.  I love the rom.  I'll switch over completely when the final version is out - and when kopi is available.  I've been using tkc and i've been wanting to switch.

Please look in the /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts file and look what essid is set to in there...

D'oh - my bad.  Sorry to take up your time.

I just noticed that i missed the "network type" radio button on the Network Profiles tab of the lan&wifi app.  I had just gone directly to the wireless tab to do the config.

setting the "network type" to "wireless" solved the problem.  Again, sorry to have bothered you.  I know you're busy these days.  Keep up the good work.
