Title: Shorted / Reboot / Lost Memory???
Post by: doc on August 27, 2004, 04:18:13 pm
I have a stupid question.

I was walking around with my Z in my pocket and there was a few quarters and a dime in there.  Somehow one of the coins touched something (I don't know what) on my Z.  (Could be the network card connection, or the USB connection or the AC adapter connection???)

Anyway, I reached into my pocket and noticed the change (and the Z) were "HOT!"
I pulled out the Z, and it was rebooting and coming up with calibration, etc. as if the battery was taken out and put back in! DOH!

Anyway, I restored from a backup on my SD card and everything seems to work still.  The battery wasn't drained, but it was in need of some recharge.

Anyone know what I actually did?  Did I ruin or potentally ruin my battery, my Z, my network card, my memory cards?  Like I said, everything seems to be working Ok, but It'll be a couple days to be sure.

Note to self:  DON'T PUT ANY OBJECTS IN YOUR POCKET WITH YOUR Z!!! YOU FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen a post nad photo on a Japanese site where a similair thing had happened with a 1 yen coin and a C750. The rubber bung over the usb conector had been lost/removed and the coin had become jammed in the usb port.

Can't remember if there was any damage to the unit or not - I'll try to find the page again
