All,
I have a broken 5500 Z. I would like to take it apar. I have taken out the 4 scews in the battery compartment, the 2 on the top and 1 on the side. At this point it starts to seperate. I believe I am missing 1 or more screws. Can someone point out where they are??
Thanks.

I think what you are missing is that you need to remove the keyboard cover first. This walks you through the whole process:

I would suggest that you pick up some "thin" gutar picks to help to snap apart the case (step 12), just don't force anything. The picks helped me a lot.
I have had mine apart a few times, what are you trying to do?

thank you
My light burnt out. I am trying to see if it is replacable. I may buy a bricked Z and swap lights.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
If you do get a bricked Z, you may want to get one with a working LCD. Take a closer look when you open the unit. Relpacing the screen with the light already attached might be much easier than just replacing the light.

Well,
I was able to take is apart and put it back together. There were a few hangups:
1. there is one screw under the keypad
2. there were several small plactic parts that fell out.
3. upon reassmebly operations seemed 'soft' for a while.
All in all it is not a difficult procedure.
This Z seems to have an intermittent. The light now works about 80% of the time. I am convinced it is a S/W race condition on boot/restore.
