Title: Symbol Spectrum 24 WiFi card problems.
Post by: Pele on August 29, 2004, 10:12:18 pm
I upgraded to Sharp Rom 3.13 and the card actually got recognized... Before, I had 2.38

Anywhozer, I click Network and current info... I put my MAC address in my Linksys access point to allow this to connect.

I put in my WEP and SSID info in the Zaurus.

I click the little globe with red X on it at the bottom and hit connect. It says Initializing, and the light blinks... Network Settings says 87% signal.

But it eventually quits trying.

What can I do?

*grumble*

Just got out my old Access point. (Linksys WAP11 v2.2... My current one is a WAP54G.)

Held the reset (On the AP) and tried to connect to SSID "linksys" manually assigned IP of 192.168.1.3, so I can connect to the Linksys's default IP of 192.168.1.251... No WEP, no MAC permit or deny...

It'll connect for half a sec then say I need to check my TCP/IP settings.

EDIT: Oddly enough it'll do the same thing regardless if the AP is on or not

We (me and my husband) are also having similar problems with our Symbol cards. The problem occurs when we are in range of a combined B/G access point. My husband has checked that if he goes to a lobby next door where there's only B network coverage, the card works in Zaurus.

It seems to be a driver problem. I tested the CF card in my Windows laptop and after upgrading the drivers the card has worked flawlessly in XP. But no go with Zaurus.

I'm not sure what make our APs are, I can see one from my window but can't read the label on the case, too far.

The antenna sticking down from the ceiling in my hallway says Lucent.

Anyway, reports on the Socket forum (eg. http://www.socketforum.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2146 (http://www.socketforum.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2146)) support the hypothesis that this is some sort of driver problem.

Rats. This must be my problem too. I just upgraded to the 54G router from the Linksys AP and am having similar problems. I guess that I will hit the forums and beg in hopes that they fix the driver.

don't know if this helps/hinders, but at home I use a dlink 624 revision B (which is the aetheros 108mbps version), a fujitsu P51010 w/802.11b, my symbol card works fine in my C760, I was browsing through my webmail for a lark (fonts are a bit too small to read comfortably).
