Hello.. I was thinking of getting a C760/860 just to play games and maybe a few other things cuz I can get them kinda cheap 2nd hand, but I've been reading all these posts about people's PDAs getting bricked...
Do they get bricked more easily than other PDAs?

They will not get more bricked than others. The clamshell users are trying more things that push the boundary of what is possible. If you're not planning on flashing a totally new rom, then the risk is pretty low. Many people also recover for the bricked state.

Bricked after 5 months and additional investments (WiFi, storage, battery) of $300.
Brickage happened during normal operation, not during a flash process.
Think twice before wasting your money.

Bah. The C860's are nice and reliable... just read bluedevils post, i agree. If you want any weight behind your comments (of that nature), i suggest you register - otherwise don't bother.

Mine's fine (touch wood ;-), lots of flashing, no troubles.

sl-cxx0 main hardware is absolutely identical to that of other non-linux pdas - identical to top quality and performance other pdas, more exactly.
Sharp design is one of the best, not only aesthetically, but concerning to solidness and quality of materials.

People here in the forum usually use pdaxrom, or cackoQt, and somone loves "playing" with libraries, kernel, and hardware support.
Just like reflashing my 3d board on my desktop with modded bios, those are risky tasks, but I'll never say "Vgaboards ltd. boards are not reliable, because I bricked mine while reflashing the bios"
These clamshell are very well made, and absolutely reliable.

If we are talking about Cxx then it's not 100% true: you need right type of power supply (you can not use native Japanese one). Usually if you buy "adopted" version or just borrow power from US versions of Zaurii you sghould be fine but I've seen quite a few bricked Zaurii when someone tried to use power adapted from Dell or some other not-quite-compatible device (Dell uses the same connector but other voltage).
As for mechnical stability - it's very good: my SL-C860 was in water three times, it was dropped on the stone floor and so on - and it still here and still work just fine. I've heard quite a few tales about how all this additional connectors and so on make it unreliable but in reality most other PDA's I've seen were unable to keep working even after one trip to lake...

For the amount of different kinda of roms from official to third party the Zaurus seems more able to handle flashing the rom more sucessfully than other PDAs.
The reason why you really haven't heard that many people getting bricked with a Ipaq or Amix that much is that few people flash their roms and the roms that they do flash are official.
And in the end if I had to chose between a bricked Pocket PC or Zaurus I would chose the Zaurus since it is likely more easy to unbrick it than other PDAs, the sole reason because you are allowed to go into the system menus and reflash,restore the rom ect. Some PDAs have locked their system menus up and the only way to fix it is to send it in.
