Title: Zaurus 5800 & WiFi?
Post by: Kwiter Ker on September 07, 2004, 10:53:10 pm
Hi folks, I just bought a refurbed 5800 for $20 off Ebay, mainly to store bedtime stories to read my daughters and some light text entry(Mohawk-English Language word/phrase lists) but saw from dling the manual from Sharp that it's got a PCMCIA slot so I'm optimistic I can WiFi to my Netgear 814 to get online and get my email.

If yes any specific card I need or will most any PCMCIA 802.11 card work?

Thank you Nia:wen

That's a completely different Zaurus to what this site and other sites like www.myzaurus.com and www.zaurus.com is for I'm afraid.

As the Zaurus ZR-5800 is quite old I doubt there are WiFi drivers for it or if it is even possible to install such drivers. I suggest searching on Google for this.

I did own a ZR-5800 in 1996 or so. And it worked with PCMCIA modem cards using a serial interface ("COM"). So a plain analog modem card worked or even a PCMCIA interface card for the mobile phone did work.
WiFi cards typically use a different protocol on the PCMCIA interface so I would say chances are less than 0.01%...
