Title: NO new software
Post by: coolass on September 10, 2004, 05:20:01 pm
Is it me or does it seem like software development for the Z has stopped. I haven't seen any new software on the ZSI in a month.......

Check out the Queue of waiting stuff, however, most of the 'new' stuff is commercial Windows stuff that people are trying SPAM onto it. There are some useful updates though - FreeNoteQT.

I am awaiting the new word processing software, (TextMaker (http://www.softmaker.de/tm_en.htm)) anyway, just waiting for it to get out of beta.  That is really all I am missing....well, I would like a lot more software too.  I would like a EASY scripting program for the Z. Something that already has built in screen and key stuff.  In the hp200lx world, there was a LX Batch (http://http://www.palmtop.net/cgi-bin/search.pl?Query=lxbatch), I really loved it!

If you want proper scripting then install opie-sh (which is also available for the Sharp ROMs) and then you can use dialog windows, etc. from your shell scripts.

Otherwise what about something like Python?

Yeh. And those system macros were a great feature of the HP-LXs, as well. Nothing at all near like them that I've seen for the C860.

Pity that someone hasn't made a device that combines the elegant sophistication & ease of use of the 200LX with the hardware power of the Zaurus lines & the software power of the Linux OS.

I STILL have to fall back often now on the 200LX for tasks that my C860s just do not have the software / firmware capabilities to handle correctly.

Sigh.
