Hi,
I have a 5500 flashed with the latest firmware from Sharp. I have a 5 gb microdrive that the 5500 mounts but doesn't show me the file system. It is formated fat32, is that the problem? If so, is there a way to format it from windows to a linux partition that the 5500 will recognize?
Thanks
Ben

You need to use fat16 and not fat 32; 'course the Z can see ext2 as well, but windows cannot.

I don't think the Zaurus supports FAT32 out of the box. And FAT16 is limited to about 2 GB. So your best bet is to use ext2. Can't use it for flashing the Zaurus, but it'll work great for storage space.

maybe, you better split the card into two partitions.
One of 2G which FAT16 can handle, and windoze can access
and the other one ext2, with which 3G can be handled as ez.
Take a look at zenyattas ez understandable how-to (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=Multiple%20partitions%20on%20a%20CF%20%2F%20SD%20card) to get them auto-mounted.

I am using SL-5600 with 4 GB Microdrive which was formatted with FAT32 partition.
Sharp original ROM version: 1.32
Linux kernel version : 2.4-18-rmk7-pxa3-embedi
What I have done is to erase the partition from MuVo2 player and format it using Partition Magic on Windows XP machine with the help of CF reader

If you follow my directions above you will have a FAT32 setup in Z and read/writeable by windows.
I have done this many many times. Fat16 will work but is NOT a requirement

Ok,
One step I didn't realize was that I needed to install fdisk.
Once I did that, I was able to complete the steps in the walk through.
I then formatted the drive in windows and copied some files over to it to test.
Unfortanatly my zaurus still doesn't see any files on the card.
I will try the steps a second time later but I am pretty sure I followed them exactly the first time.
The only thing I am not sure of is the Formatting. I just formatted it in windows like I would any drive. I did quick format Is this possibly the problem?
Thanks

Duh!!
I forgot to Delete all partitions as step 4 clearly states in BOLD letters.
Now my 5 gig seagate is working perfectly.
