any ideas? or am i just missing something. got libpng from the gaim feed along with gaim

qpe-gaim has not been maintained for long. it's a bit dead.
-
I found the gaim installation so cumbersome that I gave up. All I needed was YIM, so went with Qazoo. It is maintained, is simple to install and works well. You can check it out here:
http://qazoo.sourceforge.net/ (http://qazoo.sourceforge.net/)
I give yahoo high marks for providing a Linux client for their IM. Good luck.
-
anything that supports aim messaging?
i really need to just setup my own jabber server ... just hard to get everyone in the family to use a multiprotocal im client uhhhg
-
qpe-gaim works peachy on my c860 with Cacko. You need to copy a library and create some links after you install the package, because they didn't package the correct version of libpng. The information on this is on the qpe-gaim homepage:
http://qpe-gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#libpng (http://qpe-gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#libpng)
Enjoy,

I just installed Kinkatta-Lite on my Zaurus yesterday, and it appears to be working fine. It runs on top of the AOL IM (AIM) network.
Kinkatta-Lite on SourceForge (http://kinkatta.sourceforge.net)
You can also find it at
Kinkatta-Lite on KilleFiz.de (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=66)
You can test out my connection by sending me an AIM instant message (chat doesn't seem to work) at TonyOlsenZaurus .

Personally, I'm more interested in solving this part... (The libpng bug is fixable.)
prefs: Reading /home/root/.gaim/prefs.xml
prefs: Error reading prefs: Failed to open file '/home/root/.gaim/prefs.xml': No such file or directory
accounts: Error reading accounts: Failed to open file '/home/root/.gaim/accounts.xml': No such file or directory
pounces: Error reading pounces: Failed to open file '/home/root/.gaim/pounces.xml': No such file or directory
Any time I try to use Gaim it spits out those errors, and, as they imply, doesn't save prefs, accounts or pounces (?). Some of us can't use separate clients because we use like 3 or 4 IM protocols at once...
-
Yeah i mainly use aim but id like to be able to use several at once

Chaos,
Have you tried running gaim as the 'zaurus' user or are you always running as root? You might want to check the permissions and/or if the ~/.gaim directory even exists.

I've tried as root, and as zaurus.
Also on three different ROMs. Sharp 1.32, tKC 2.0alpha3, and my own Watapon.
None work. All output the same errors (some minor variations, but basically the same thing -- i.e. replace root with zaurus).
-
Did you open a console and check if ~/.gaim exists? You should be running qpe-gaim as 'zaurus' not root (It's generally a bad idea to run everything as root). You might want to check that you own everything your home directory example:
sudo chown -R zaurus:qpe /home/zaurus
If you cannot save your preferences it sounds like a permissions problem, which the above chown should solve.
I've been using qpe-gaim since I first got my c860. That said, it is a flakey package.
-
For those that are interested, I decided to repackage qpe-gaim in a format more usable for the C series devices. It now has a dependancy on a libpng package that I also have created on my feed. It installs from from the feed for me and works. Give it a try if you ever have to install qpe-gaim on a C series and don't want to bother with libpng linking etc.

Enjoy!

sudo chown -R zaurus:qpe /home/zaurus
If you cannot save your preferences it sounds like a permissions problem, which the above chown should solve.
Running as root it should have access to everything. It just doesn't work at all. Even if it's "not a good idea" (in your opinion, anyway ), it serves as a good way to test.
I've played with the permissions, etc. It simply doesn't work out.
Originally when I tested it, it tried writing to /.gaim/ (Yes, that's the ROOT directory o.O)
Hmm, anyone know where the qpe-gaim 0.4 source is anyway?
-
Good luck getting the source. I'm sure it's in CVS somewhere on Souceforge, but looking the qpe-gaim forum:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thr...forum_id=288148 (http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1118496&forum_id=288148)
Others have been requesting the qpe-gaim source to no avail. It looks like a dead project, not like that's news.
-
It worked for me on Cacko a while back (except that the icons were very small). It also remembered settings.
Works fine on OZ (and that's the reason for the lib incompatibility I think; the rest of you use the wrong lib ;-)

The tweaked package for qpe-gaim on my feed has the large icons enabled for the C series. Since I never got qpe-gaim to turn on the large icons reliably I just removed the 16x16 icons and linked the 16x16 dir to 32x32.
