Title: Flashing Problem
Post by: cfalter on September 16, 2004, 05:17:07 pm
I understand that I supposed to get SOLID GREEN and YELLOW LEDs during flash.

It is a hard keycombo to press. Am I maybe misinterpreting what the key press sequence is?

I did the flash to 3.13 off the PC and USB link from 2.37 using the CD-ROM \updaterom\setup.exe program. But now I am apparently unable to flash to anything else.  Did the CF/SD based ROM flash process change with the 3.12 ROM? I didn't think the flash utility ROM partition got changed.

Loading the zImage and initrd.bin on FAT formatted CF or SD cards doesn't seem to work.

When I simultaneously pressing C and D keys while pressing hard reset the best reaction I get is flashing green and yellow lights. I've tried letting that go for a while (an hour) but no new ROM.

One thing I have heard is to make sure there is nothing else on the CF card you are using. Some are also apparently sensitive to being formatted. I always end up checking out a digital camera from school and using the card from that for flashing.

To hit the key combo, I hold my SL 5500 upside down in my left hand and then use my thumbnail and the top surface of my index finger nail to hold down the C and D respectively.

I have had the same problem.  I found a piece of plastic that was the perfect size to hold down the c and d.  I even just got a new 256 cf card and was just trying it and got the same results flashing lights which I know does not work.  The only good thing about it is I get to setup my aps again the "current" way I want them.  I make the backups but then everything would be as it was and that is no fun.  I am using sharp rom 3.10.

Check md5sums of the files.

Check there's no extra (.bin) extensions added to the zImage file (initrd.bin should have the extension).

Reformat the card (using fdisk to remove the existing partition - if you have the sharp ROM you'll need to obtain an fdisk ipk).
