Greetings.

The screenshots and information for TextMaker look great. Unfortunately, I can't get it to install. The IPK Manager says that the files extracted from the TextMaker IPK are corrupt; if I continue the installation, the Z. locks up and I have to do a hard reset and restore.

Have you had any trouble with this software?

Thanks.

Which ROM are you running?

I'd love to know if this can run on OZ 3.5.1 either under OPIE or GPE.

Sorry, should have included that:  Sharp ROM 3.10

I'd really love to be able to use this app. I do a lot of writing and editing on the go, and the features in TextMaker are exactly what I've been looking for.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Just a quick heads up for those that have bought the Zaurus from ShirtPocket.

Still under negogiation, so not promising...

But, we are hoping to do a deal on Textmaker. IF it works out, all existing ShirtPocket Zaurus buyers (and future ones of course) will get a free copy.

I'd say that there is a very good chance of it happening.

Thought it worth mentioning in case you are planning to go and buy...

Looks very good on my 5500 (original ROM) as well. There's still some problems with using MS Word as an intermediary format, though (I run Fedora Core 2/OpenOffice 1.1.1 on my desktop) - bullet points are converted to indents by TextMaker, for instance. On my wishlist: support for the .SXW format.

Hi
Tried today to install it on my SLA-300 with 1.50J ROM but the package installer says "sorry, something went wrong".

Any ideas?

It runs but I haven't done much more than type some text and make sure the display rotates properly. I can't see the text cursor but I believe this has already been reported as a bug.

This morning I still had the same error on my Zaurus 5500 (3.1 ROM). The TM Beta forum lists a similar discussion where several users reported having installation errors. One user suggested that maybe there was a conflict with another installation...

I uninstalled the following packages, after which it wokred. I'm not sure which item caused the problem. If you are having trouble installing, check and see if you have any of these packages currently installed: KO/PI, KA/PI, kmicrodelibs, hancom word. I also had to uninstalled Jeode and the example apps just to make space for TM.

Installation is at last working. Looks good so far.

The TM Web page claims that the sotware can be installedon an SD card. I tried -- and was given an error message saying that TM has to be installed to internal storage. Has anyone had any luck getting the app to install to an SD or CF card?

Thanks.

Kim

I'm on a dial up connection at home (dsl soon according to Verizon) so it would be a pain to send it. I don't know if it would do any good as it may be tied to my registration name and serial number.

Maybe you can re-register and download it again.

I have it installed to an ext2 formatted sd card, by the way.

Hi
I also noticed that it will install only on the main memory. However, the dictionaries install without problems but the main package complains about some bad tar headers??? blocks??
Also I made some 10MB available on the device for it but I still think it is not enough.

Hi,
did you try to use ipkg on the command line?
That way, I managed to install it on my SD-Card.

I've been using Textmaker on the Z5500 as my main word processor for a week now, and am impressed with the quality. I haven't had a single crash, and it's handled every file I've thrown at it beautifully (except for the problem with bullet points in MS Word files, but that is a problem with my desktop Linux word processors as well). Actually, it's the first time in my 12 years as a PDA owner that I don't feel I'm using a dumbed-down word processor.

My only real complaint at this time has to be the slow screen redraw when editing large text files. This could be due to the slow processor in my Zaurus, of course, but it definitely limits my typing speed. I'll keep on testing Textmaker for the duration of the beta period - by October 15 I'll know if the redraw problem is serious enough to prevent me from paying € 49 for Textmaker. :-)

Greetings.

Has anyone been able to get TM to work with Opera 7.30 installed on a Z 5x00?

Just tried and couldn't get it to work no matter how I reconfigured my Z (Rom 3.1)

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
