Ive tried this on three different OZ roms (3.3.5/opie, 3.5.1/opie, 3.5.1/gpe).
I assume this happens on all windows XP versions although I am using SP2 (Am I the only one? Alot of people i know have had great trouble installing it)
If you plug the zaurus in while its on, USB Networking fails and windows gives you the "USB Device Not Recognised" error, which i have _never_ seen before.
However, if you turn the zaurus off using the battery compartment slider, then turn it back on, and plug it in before it's booted, usb networking works fine. However, if you unplug it after you plugged it in and its all loaded up, the "USB Device Not Recognised" error come back.
This doesnt happen on the Sharp ROM, i havent tried anything else yet, i did a quick search and didnt find anything on the boards, has anyone else seen this before?

I am getting this on a secondhand 5600 I have just recieved. Not managed to Sync it at all yet. Identical problem and behavior.
PC runs XP Pro SP2,
Zaurus is running, Opie 1.0.3, Kernel 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix-021129, OZ 3.3.6-pre1
Only a slightly different note. How can I update it to the latest version of OZ which was released yesterday?

With mine, i managed to connect the zaurus to the computer, and it would detect the networking, i SCPed the zImage and initrd.bin files over SSH to the CompactFlash card (could have done this with a card reader if i had one) and just reflashed as normal.

Yeah I noticed this last night after flashing OZ 3.5.1 I use a usb power/sync cable instead of the cradle, and charge off of usb. So naturally the first boot the zaurus was recognized, then this morning it gave me the not recognised error. I didn't have time to mess with it so thanks for the extra info.

I'm having the same issue with 3.5.2. Has any fix been found yet?
-
This is to do with hotplug not working correctly or something like that (I can't remember the exact reason, though I think it has been fixed - for 3.5.3).
Rather than rebooting, use something like my start_net.sh script to reload the net_fd related modules. Try searching for that. BTW this topic itself has been brought up before.

This attached ipk works too. It restarts the usb driver. I remapped my buttons to make the contacts button activate it so that works like my sync button.
