So I need to format my SD card to ext2, but when I type "mkfs.ext /dev/mmcda1" in the terminal, it claims that it has no idea what mkfs.ext2 is. I ran a search for it, and it doesn't seem to be installed on the system.
I'm running the latest OZ on a c860. I just installed.
Any help?

Are there any mkfs* programs available?
If not, install fdisk.

install e2fsprogs-mke2fs

Also you may want to look in /sbin becuase I noticed that if you root with su /sbin is not in your path. If you don't want to run with /sbin or add it to your path, just su with su - yes the - is important, as this will give you roots path file.
