Title: toasted 5600 flash
Post by: Pachus on September 29, 2004, 11:29:02 pm
I tried to flash OZ 3.5.1 onto my 5600 earlier today. I must have done something wrong. The flash appeared to be successful because the status indicated it worked 100%. Then I went back to the maintenance menu to format. When I pressed it and confirmed the selection the screen went blank. Now nothing works. I have tried re-flashing from the maintenance menu but I get the same behavior: after I confirm the selection the screen blanks and nothing happens. Can't even power it on. Am I hosed?

Flash a different ROM.

Chances are the OZ 3.5.1 is just not working well on 5600s yet. Try going back to the Sharp default ROM, and if that works, go ahead and try flashing OZ again.

You do have a CF reader, right? Because if you don't, I'd suggest getting one...

Downloaded the 1.38 ROM off of Sharp's site and attempted to flash it with the same results. As soon as I confirm the Update the unit appears to power down. It really appears to be a brick.

Using a pcmcia adapter for CF transfers. Maybe I'll find a Windows box to try flashing via USB. So if that doesn't work, am I out my $300?

make sure you format as well! flashing just overwrites the data, but it doesn't erase everything ::: I had a problem with my 5600 and an old OZ.. .

Use the matenence menue to format .. then flash after that ::: SHould clear it up ::

As a last resort you can try to find a NAND backup.
