As many of you have probably already experienced, when taking the Z on an airplane, it is oftentimes hard to hear a good movie without noice cancelling headphones. Another issue is that when traveling with a friend, you need a splitter to share the movie on the Z.l
Well, there is a great little item that solves both of these problems:
Volume Booster 100% boost per channel (3 outputs) (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=33-1109)
(out of stock online but your local radio shack should have them....mine did).
This item has it's own 2xAA batteries and seems to last a long time. Each output (there are three get a 100% VOLUME BOOST).
Another nice use of this is as an "attachment" to your Z case. For example I have a couple of mini (1") speakers that I setup to use the volume booster. But istead of hooking both speaker to a SINGLE headphone adaptor I hooked EACH speaker to it's OWN headphone adaptor (thereby losing true stereo, but I get both left and right out of each speaker). The net effect is that instead of the two speakers getting a combined 100% boost, EACh SPEAKER gets it's own 100% boost, effectively boosting tthe output by 200%. It does work (tried it both ways to make sure I was not imagining it).
The booster is a little big, so not great for everywhere, but it sure beats having to try to hear a mvie from the single speaker buried behind the CF card in the Z
I have the wiring working and the case disassembled (PDAir case) and now I just need to solder insulate and re-sew the case to my liking. Once complete I will post picure if anyone expresses interest.
