Dear all,
I'm thinking about buying a Z SL-6000. I hope it to replace my office laptop to a certain degree and function as a bee-anyway remote sys-admin tool. I am a nib to the Z.
Hardware':
I'd lke to have the following accessories:
* 4GB microdrive. (or similar)
* Audiovox RTM8000 GPRS/GSM compact flash card. (or similar)
Can I run the Z with a GSM card and a high capacity storage device at the same time?
Can I redirect the display to an external monitor?
Can I add a USB keyboard and mouse? (maybe this could be achieved with a USB hub?)
Software:
Which mail readers can you install and can they handle digital certificates, especially those provided by Thwarte as our company uses these.
Any insight to these questions would help me get it right.
Thanks in advance,
Zii.

The answer to your first 3 questions is yes. The first can be handled by using a high capacity SD card (1gig) and leave the CF slot for gsm or purchase a CF adapter by Sharp for the SL-6000 to give you two CF slots. The second can be achieved using VNC server software to capture and control the Zaurus from your desktop and a Vnc client to control your desktop from the Z. All the software can be found in the Zaurus software index on this site.or do a search from this site and see what turns up. If you want a hard wire approach , you can get a CF VGA output CF card from the myzaurus.com website. The above software search will also help you find other options for Email clients.

Thx coolass for this info. I've tried looking for SF cards >128mb but haven't found any, nor have I found the CF expander, but thats not prob. I'll just have to look harder
Another Q: Can I move the Z's partitions to the SF card (cut up into several partitions), so as to free up the usable memory, or am I being naive?
Cheers,
Zii.

I have not yet bought the sled yet for my Z because I do not have the money and have not had the need for it since I only have on 256mb cf card. I do uses a USB keyboard on the sharp rom when I want to use a natural keyboard instead of my targus IR keyboard. THe mouse does nto doing anything in the Sharp rom though I have used a mouse on GPE to move the pointer.
I currently uses my SL-6000L to admin linux, solaris and Windows server at work using ssh, vnc and rdesktop.
On the default sharp rom you can install some of the software to the sd or cf card. I have had some problem on resume on those programs go missing or locking the Z up but most of the time this is due to me ejecting the card and not noticing. I have installed most of my software to my sd card when I am runnign OpenZaurus with both gpe and opie, though neather of these are production quality yet for the average person(I can do everything I want on my z from a comand prompt, gui is just a plus but I am a unix admin)
My Z is my primary portable computer, so it is possible for the Z to replace the laptop and I know there are serveral people using the Audiovox RTM8000 GPRS/GSM compact flash card on their Z, even a few that uses it as a cell phone. This is something I want to do in the future but it goes back to money that I do not have at the moment.
http://www.pricewatch.com/ (http://www.pricewatch.com/) under Memory - Flash list sizes up to 1gb for SD cards. The other option you would have for storage would be getting something like http://www.archos.com/products/prw_500455.html (http://www.archos.com/products/prw_500455.html) which would give you 20gb or 40gb of space when you need it. This is one of the things I am hoping to get for my Z in the future. If you search to forums you can find people that have been able to get this drive to work with out an exteranl power source. I have made usb drives work on my 6k though it was through a powered usb hub.
Hope some of this helps...

Keep in mind the CFXGA adapter listed on myzaurus.com (http://www.myzaurus.com/) is only for displaying images. It doesn't do real time updates the way that a normal video card does. I think it has a 1 second refresh rate. This in part explains the interest in a guy who supposedly does have his Z connected to a monitor (see this forum (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7321&hl=cringely) discussion)
