as you all know.. the zug is growing, so I think it's time we bring on a few forum moderators. basic duties include:
- keeping threads on topic within the forum (qt discussions in the 'sharp roms' forum, pdaxrom discussions in that forum, etc.)
- if spammers post crap on the forum (rarely happens), delete the thread
- deal with bashers, etc. (in a nice way... unless we need to be more harsh which is where an admin comes in, also rarely happens)
- splitting topics when the thread gets out of hand (multiple topics in one thread should be split into seperate threads)
- merging threads (when people don't search before posting, and creates a new thread when there's already one (or more) already discussing the topic
- etc, etc, etc.
so, if you want to be an admin for a specific forum (or more), just post a note here saying so.
note: you don't need to have been a member for ages, or an expert on the zaurus. just be respectable to others, blah, blah, blah...
thanks!

I'd be happy to help out if you need it.

Pick a forum(s) to moderate, and I'll add you.
Thanks!

Don't know whether I'll be able to handle all this responsibility ;-) but the least I can do is help out.
Stick me on whatever (OZ is probably a good starting point).

done - thanks for the help!

I'd help out, too. But I don't want to take over a forum myself, maybe there's someone who could share one with me (if that's ok with offroadgeek, of course)? I think that'd be much better than just one moderator for one forum.... anyone interested?
Cheers

How about we pick two and share responsibility for them. That way we've got some backup
I'll take Security and Networking, and Linux Issues if thats ok with Offroad.

Okay, count me in. Is there some kind of documentation available for how-to-do-what, or should we just click our way through to do whatever we think is necessary?

I trust there's nothing to do for us than wait until someone says "ok, now you're moderators" or "no, you won't be" ?
cheers

If you're still looking for help, I'd be willing to lend a hand I'm still relatively new at this though...

sorry, I was away for a few days, and I'm finally getting caught up now that I'm back.
both you and jamesm have been added as moderators to the 'security and networking' as well as the 'linux issues' forum.
I'll hopefully be writing up a 'forum moderators how-to' real soon.
thanks for the help!

no problem about being new... it just takes a little common sense
pick a forum...

Stick me in Newbie Issues, seems rather fitting

If you need me I will help.

I'd (possibly) like to help out, if there's a need.
Possibly pdaXrom (if Laze needs help there... otherwise he's doing a fine job)
Possibly X/QT (low traffic, may not need much moderation)
Possibly Linux Issues
Possibly Off Topic (as a battle-hardened Troll, I think it would be a good fit )
Possibly Sharp ROMs (though I'm running them less often these days)
Possibly regional ZUGs (english-speaking ones, or possibly babelfishable ones too?)
Possibly others? Though, not all of them at once.
I'm open to expanding the boundaries of my ignorance to incorporate new realms
for me to be entirely ignorant of, too.
-
I would be happy to help. Between this forum and LQ (linuxquestions.org) I am what is known as a forum junkie (read:addict) . I am a Linux admin by trade, but will try to help in other areas as best I can. :-)
-
I'd like to do the Front page updates and FAQ maintenance, if that's possible at all
PM me, or you can mail: ben at talon.nl

boy - I'm sorry for the delay. Normally it doesn't take me a month and a half to respond
we've been working on a few new cool things, so it's been keeping me busy.... anyway, based on your profile, most of your posts are in the general discussions forum so I added you as a moderator there.
let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

once again, sorry for the delay.

Let us know if you have any questions. And thanks for volunteering!

I've added you to the open zaurus forum (based on your profile activity). If you want to be added to other forums, just let us know.
Thanks again!

I'd like to help. I'm more proficient on Windows (said quietly) and learning Linux by leaps and bounds.
Suggested forums -
1. General Discussion
2. Sharp ROMs
3. Windows Issues
4. Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile
Is there a code of practice for moderators e.g. How often to check forums etc.

I'd be willing to be a backup for you on Linux Issues, Software, User Requests for Applications, I read the forums about 2-3 times per week, and mostly concentrate on these 3.
