Title: General direction on ipkg creation
Post by: gen2 on October 18, 2004, 12:43:08 pm
Looking for some pointers on the "best way" to approach porting/ipkg creation.

For instance, is it better to try compiling directly on the Z, or should I focus on cross-compiling from a linux box?

How "difficult" is it (for, say, a reasonably adept linuxer)? Should I just dive in? Do you need to be a "coder", or is it "not that hard"? (I'm sure it depends on the app...)

(yes I read the pdaxrom sdk docs, I'm just polling for inside experience, tips)

Are there special compiler flags for rc5+ (for the vector fp)?

Thanks

Yes, it's a little confusing for a noob -- but there are a couple of major versions of pdaxrom and you'll have to make sure you've got components specific to your target version or you'll go bonkers. The pdaxrom site is apparently going to be upgraded, and at that point I'm sure it will be a LOT less confusing, especially for the new folks.

install this stuff (if it's your target version):

http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=34&menuid=1 (http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=34&menuid=1)

if not, then maybe this is what you want:

http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=40&menuid=11 (http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=40&menuid=11)

read this stuff, keeping in mind that it might not specifically pertain to your version (but it's still "good info", mostly, you figure out what's useful for you):

http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=35&menuid=1 (http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=35&menuid=1)

and also

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...name=Developing (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=Developing)

Not exactly a consolidated batch of stuff, you'll need to be a pretty advanced user if not a coder until the docs get fleshed out a bit more. Maybe you should contribute some $ to speed up the process?

Good luck, and please contribute your findings back to the list!
