Title: Lost?! How do I get a console?
Post by: erikzaurus on October 20, 2004, 10:30:30 pm
Took advantage of the price deduction on the 6000 from Amazon... Ready to start playing with it, I am interesting in using rdesktop and ssh on it to manage servers... IPSEC if I can get it working... Anyway, there is no console icon?  Do I need to install a console package or ssh to localhost or from another machine?  I haven't got the wireless up, since I need the MAC, which I need to access the console to get (ipconfig).  Tons of good stuff on these boards,  just need a little push!

Thanks!
Erik

Erik,

The console app is on the CD-ROM disk which came with the SL-6000.  It doesn't come pre-installed.

You'll need to find some way to get it to the Zaurus.  If you don't/can't set up USB networking then if you have an SD or CF card reader you can copy the .ipk file from CD to CF/SD and insert into the Zaurus.

Too bad the Network applet doesn't give the Wi-Fi MAC address (just like my other Linux PC's).  I (temporarily) turned off MAC filtering on my access point so my Z could associate and then the Network applet showed the MAC.  Then I put the Z's MAC into the filter and re-enabled.

I haven't got to SSH yet on the -6K
