Title: ipk on Win XP
Post by: Fabri70 on October 23, 2004, 04:37:31 am
Hi,

I'm going to buy C860.
I see a lot of GPL software for Zaurus 5500 and 5600, are all of them installable also to C860.

I already downloaded software for zaurus but I got IPK files and they do not run on WinXP. How can I run them to test and to see what is available for my future pda ? Is it necessary that I install Linux on my desktop ? It is necessary to buy the pda ?

Thanks in advance
Fabri

The IPK files will contain ARM Linux binaries, the only platform that they will run on is ARM Linux.

Even if you put Linux on your PC you won't be able to run them there because it's fundamentally a different architecture.

I'm afraid you will have to wait until you have your PDA.

No emulator is available, the best you can do is to install qtopia framebuffer, recompile the apps for the x86, but even then I've never heard of anyone doing this on XP.
