Title: eXpansys experiences?
Post by: nyar on October 23, 2004, 10:34:04 am
Hi,

Anybody here had experiences with eXpansys?

I ordered a bunch of items from them for my Z almost two weeks ago (one 'in stock', another 'sent in 3 days'), and paid immediately; got a confirmation email from them the same day.

I haven't heard a thing since.  Emails to them get absolutely no response; I haven't tried calling yet but will early next week.

If I knew things would take this long, I would have gotten the items locally; eXpansys were just a bit cheaper, had a vendor I preferred, and I thought I'd give them a go.

My experiance with Expansys UK has been very good. At least for items that are in stock.

Shipped promptly, no problem. Did ship a European version of a product once by accident. But when I contacted them the sent a UK Adaptor, which is fair enough...

Only problem with them I find is their "Pre-Release" and Estimated time till in stock.

Estimated time can sometimes keep going back. i.e. Estimated in stock in 7 days. 7 days later still 7 days, 7 days later still 7 days....
Not always, just sometimes...

Pre-Orders generally are waste of time. They seam to stick anything that looks interesting on Pre-Release regardless of if they are ever likely to get them. Just a way of getting you on their system in case they do.

Still had the SL-C700 on Prerelease last time I checked

Good to know we arn't the only ones that get overwhelmed with too many emails...

I've only ordered one item from them (Expansys USA) and I received it without any problems or unreasonable delay. I would buy from them again.

I've had similar experiences to Zuber.

When they actually have it in stock, Expansys send it out very quickly. I originally bought my 5500 from them when they first came out in the UK.

But if stock needs to be ordered, they always seem overly optimistic as to when stock will come in. I ordered an ADSL modem a year ago which was supposed to be in stock within 7 days. It took 4 weeks, but they were they only ones that had the modem I wanted (It was a Bluetooth ADSL Modem running embedded Linux).

Check out Reseller Ratings (http://www.resellerratings.com).  I always do before ordering.  This is what they have to say about Expansys (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller3513.html).

You might also want to check out the Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org).

I have ordered about ten items from Expansys uk
They were all delivered the next day.

They were all stock items however.

I called them today (after emailing them again, and yet again recieving no response).  They told me that they were waiting for supplies from the vendor for one of the items, and it might take a few weeks to get in - fantastic that they communicated that to me.

I asked for the possibility of swapping one of the items for something functionally simular from another vendor; they told me they'd chase it up immediately and get back to me.

Haven't heard a thing since.

Customer service is a pretty damn big thing in my books, and right now, these guys aren't rating terribly high.

I should probably add too that one of the items was listed as stock when I ordered; this is the item that is holding up the delivery, apparently.

Hopefully they don't do anything even sillier such as use the other component waiting for the order to be completed for another customer, thereby delaying my order further. :-(

Can they not send the items they have, then send the missing item when it arrives?

Unless of course you need all the bits.

I initially ordered a 5600 from them showing several in stock in France with three days delivery.

After two weeks of waiting I had also built up enough of a picture to know that the 5600 wasn't the best thing for me (only 32Mb RAM) and decided to 'go the whole nine yards' and order my SL-C860 from Shirtpocket having cancelled the order from Expansys.

Never looked back (well until now ).

I bought my Z from them, along with memory cards, card readers, mobile phone accessories, etc.
I only ever had a problem when a multi-card reader wouldn't work, so I contacted them, sent it back and had a replacement within 3 days.
Couldn't fault their service and will happily buy from them again.
And NO, I don't work for them.

If they send what they have now, the shipping would cost me more.

I can't even ask them that though - they STILL haven't contacted me back.  Emailing them is completely useless.

Grr.  One of the items is a WIFI card, and I really need it at the moment.

Contacted them again, got somebody else who was incredibly helpful.  I cancelled my pending order and instead ordered a CF Bluemonkey Bluetooth card, and it's being shipped tomorrow morning.

Finally.  It seems what people are saying is correct; if they have the item in stock, they're okay, but if they don't, forget seeing the item anytime soon.  They really need to work on their customer communications.

Amusingly, both times I was on hold, they had it switched to a talkback radio show; the first time they were discussing sperm, the second on how to clean toilets.  Heh!

I recently purchased a nice leather case for my 5600.  It was not in stock and I had to wait almost 20 days.  It arrived OK - but their order tracking system sucks.  I sent couple e-mails to them but no body replied.  It was an OK experience - given that they were the only source carried that particular item.
hope this proves useful.
