Hi all,
I got OZ running and I like it a lot. However, I am a little confused with getting it to sync. I tried using sharp's USB driver for the cradle but it says my device is an unknown USB device still when I put it on the cradle. Also, what software do I need to use and what alternative methods are their for syncing with XP?

What is windows?
What is XP?

I'm having the same issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
I was using qtopiaddesktop on my XP box for syncing with the Z.
Now I use Pi-Sync, in fact, I use kopi/kapi on my XP and the replace the files on my Z. And from my Z to my XP.
hope it helps,
Francois.

I don't know about anyone else, but I still don't get it. My understanding of Pi-Sync was that you had to have a working TCP/IP connection between Windows and the Zaurus so that you could sftp the Pi-X files to the Windows box temporarily in order to sync the data. That is, Pi-Sync has a procedure to reconcile data between two addressbook or datebook files, but the connectivity issue is SEP (Someone Else's Problem). Not so?
How do you establish a TCP/IP connection using the USB cable between a Zaurus (pref. a 5600) running OZ 3.5.1 and Windows 2K or XP??
Is this one of those things that everyone but me knows?

Open the Zaurus Manager and set it from USB I/O (Default) to USB TCP/IP (advanced). I had to suspend, pop the Zaurus out of the cradle, turn it on, suspend again, pop it back in (this is to re-initialize the usbd0 interface), and it was sorted.
Your alternatives for syncing are with Qtopia Desktop (a 1.5 version, I believe, or one directly from Trolltech i.e. not from Sharp--they changed the data format in the most recent ROMs) or Outlook. For the latter, you need to hunt down an older version of Intellisync (again because of Sharp's bothersome DTM format), which IIRC is 1.43. I haven't used Intellisync with OZ, but I've seen a couple other threads on here that you might want to check out (search on "intellisync" in the OpenZaurus ROMs areas.

For me, 3.5.1 crashes Qtopia Desktop so at the moment I don't sync at all. I can establish a TCP/IP connection, though, and I can FTP files back and forth (I have a Linux desktop, though). Caveats:
1. To enable the connection in the first place, I needed to go Settings > Security > Sync > Sync software type > IntelliSync. This needs to be done only once.
2. Suspend/resume kills the connection. I have to do Settings > Shutdown > Reboot each time I want to connect to the desktop PC. Pretty annoying.
3. Even when the TCP/IP connection is established, every time I try to start FTPing from the desktop side a confirmation dialog pops up on the Zaurus (Allow/Deny). Slightly annoying.

P.S. Of course, Zaurus' FTP server listens on port 4242 so the URL I use in Konqueror to access my Z is ftp://root@192.168.129.201:4242/ (http://ftp://root@192.168.129.201:4242/)

The way I do the sync with the Py/Sync project is very simple (no tcpip) I just copy the file (mycalendar.ics) to the Z and when I use it whith the Z I copy it back to windows (using a CF or a SD).

Oh. Yeah. Well, I'm willing to grant that that would work.

He did not write, that other syncing is impossible.
With KDE-Pim/Pi you can sync several devices
"in one go". That means you choose on one device
(where everything is confgured in the right way)
"Multiple Sync" and all devices will be synced.
All devices must be reachable via network.
