Title: Best WiFi Card for 5600
Post by: sondheim on October 25, 2004, 03:53:40 pm
Apologies for writing here - I sent first to network/security. I use a 5600 and need a CF WiFi card that will work. The Sandisk - which has been covered here - works for a few seconds and then produces an error "The signal level is low" - and both wireless and OS stop working. I can get the 5600 working if I take the card out. The card works perfectly on my 5500. I gather the problem is with Sharp. I've modified the wlan-ng.conf etc.

Can anyone recommend a relatively easy-to-install wireless card that's reliable? This is driving me crazy.

I'm using the usual Sharp OS by the way and would rather keep the original config as I'm using all the apps.

Thanks -

I have one that was sold by Sony.  I have never had any problem with it, and what is nice about it is that its small enough not to block access to the stylus.

Sony Clie Gear Wireless LAN Card
PEGA-WL100

On the back it has the following:

WCF2011BMWS
Intel PRO/Wireless
2011B LAN CF Card
Model: WCF2011BMWW

There are some on Ebay ranging from $10 to $50.  Search for PEGA-WL100.  I paid $25 for mine when Best Buy had them on sale a year or two ago.

I don't know the best...
But Socket seems not bad.
It only cosume 20ma when in idle...
And not as power consuming as other's wi-fi card.

Symbol seems share the same architeture as Socket....

Went to J&R and bought a Linksys card which works great. So the problem might not be inherent in the Sharp, but in the combination with the Sandisk. Thanks for advice - Alan
