Title: installing ibm/opera multimodal browser

has anyone successfully installed the multimodal browser from ibm/opera?
just checking, mine fails with "ipkg says something went wrong. Sorry"
got me?

You can try installing from the terminal

cd to the directory of the file then
Code: [Select]
ipkg install thefilename.ipkthen you should hopefully see why its not installing

hope that helps

btw the file is quite large if your installing on the Ram, 5 Meg.  Make sure you have room.  I think it should say something if you dont though.

Incidentally,

What is the benefit of the multimodal IBM version of Opera over the version that comes stock on the 6000L?

Yes, version 7.55. Make sure you have enough space and that the original opera browser is inthe app tab for the install to find it. I would also do a soft reboot just before installing and if that doesn't work I would download the file again.

thanks for the info, i tried the terminal install, gives me a "cannot create directory '//home/tmp/ipkg/multimodal': Permission Denied"

any takers?

Are you root when you try to run the ipk in the terminal?

apparently sudo is on the 6K as default so i haven't found how to log in as root
any help would be nice : )

i would like to thanks the people  that helped me out, i have found my head was in a deep dark place, once removed i found the "su" coommand and everythings fine and dandy
