Can anybody recommend an IMAP client with SSL and support for remote folders? Ideally I'd be able to cache the messages to an SD card so I could work offline when necessary.
I already have a buch of procmail scripts setup on my mail server that sort mail into folders, so if I just have the inbox (Like the Sharp mail app) I miss ALOT.
I've read some things about opie-mail that make it look promising, but I've been unable to find much information on it.
The major reason I'm staying away from PdaXRom/Thunderbird is that I want to keep Japanese handwriting recognition. I'm currently running the Cacko rom, but I'm considering switching to OpenZaurus (I assume I can add Japanese language support exactly the way I did under Cacko).
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

On my desktop I use offlineIMAP (http://gopher.quux.org:70/devel/offlineimap/) to sync my imap folders with local ones. It's written in python so I think it should work just fine if you install python on the Z. (I haven't tested that yet...) It's not a mail client either, it just syncs folders so you'll need a seperate client. It supports SSL too.
I'll be trying it out as soon as I get my new Zaurus.

Hi,
for Openzaurus opiemail3 can access Imap via SSL and also on secure port. This is very nice. After getting the mails you can drag and drop them to local folder.
For Sharproms OM/PI from the actual kdepimpi should be able to do this too, because it is based on opiemail3. But I never used OM/PI.
Cheers,
Sam

Wow, thanks, that was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
For those who may come after me... I went here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=104103 (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=104103)
and downloaded
kdepim_1.9.12_for_SharpROM.ipk.zip
Then, I installed kmicrokdelibs and kopiemail. As usual I had to reboot before the program appeared under my PIM tab.

FWIW, I use the stock QtMail app from Sharp with Fastmail.fm, which only supports IMAP over SSL. I had no problems gettting it working. After I subscribed, all my folders show up (including Draft & Sent--this is how I know it supports sub-folders, because I actually have a "Draft" and a "Drafts" folder under the Fastmail account. One is the way that Fastmail labels it, one is the way Sharp Mail labels it. . . but the fact remains that they're both there).
That said, I also had a good experience with KOpieMail. The only problem I had was freezing when downloading news from very active lists, although I suspect this was my fault for not limiting the amount of news it grabbed.

I'd much rather use the stock QtMail app, so I've been playing with it again. Once I click the get mail button, my Z downloads all of the mail in the Inbox folder, and nothing else. Normally for IMAP I have to configure the remote mail directory, and there's no place to set that in QtMail. My mail is located in ~/mail/.
If I set QtMail to use port 993 (secure IMAP), it just sits there for a really long time, and the status message says "Connection established".
Now that I've received my 1gb SD card, I've been trying to make KOpieMail work too, but it doesn't seem to actually save my messages for offline viewing; It won't even let me browse the folders in my account without an internet connection. I also checked the amount of free space available on my Z using the df command before and after running KOpieMail, and it hasn't changed.
Does anyone else have any advice to offer?
Thanks!

Update:
I've realized that you CANT set your mail directory to anything other than ~, and QtMail doesn't support mailboxes in folders. So I made symbolic links to each of my mailboxes from my home directory, and that convinced QtMail to see all of my folders (for example, Personal/Finance became Personal_Finance), but it only downloads the headers of messages in a folder, unless you manually open the mail, and click "Get This Mail" from the "Mail" menu.
It will download the entire email for all messages in the INBOX, though it seems to have a limit of 3mb max email size, and you cant set it any higher.
I think I'll probably start playing with KOpie-Mail again soon...
