Title: Minidisc?
Post by: Merardon on November 04, 2004, 03:53:55 pm
Is it at all possible to store files, (aside from audio), on a Minidisc? Just an idle thought, and forgive me if it sounds "newbish"

The new standard of minidisc i believe supports this....   The original minidiscs can technically hold around 150megs, but they're was never a comerically produced data drive for them afaik.

There is a specification for data Minidiscs (half-way down IEEE minidisc (http://www.minidisc.org/ieee_paper.html)) but the standard requires data discs to have a slightly different cartridge shape to the music discs.  This is claimed to be to stop confusion with consumers but was more likely to try to stop people copying discs as can be done with cds to cd-roms.

I looked it up, and apparantly it does exist, as MD Data. I even managed to get the model number for a drive or two, but they're old, and nowhere to be found. I'm hoping this pops up somewhere eventually. I don't care if it's common or not, I usually prefer it uncommon. (I'm obsessed with security and privacy, and even store some of my files on 5 1/4 inch floppies simply because no one can read them.)

just use a program like s-tools

not only do you benefit from using your normal MD's and player (as long as it has a digital link) .. but your 'secret' files are encrypted  AND who the hell will look for info INSIDE a normal looking MD that actually still plays music when you put it back in the player.

you need a MD recorder with digital in and out. (cuz it uses LSB and re-sampling will loose your original information that you hide inside it)

Now ... how can we get MDs to play on the zaurus

I thought that didn't work on a minidisc. You sure it will? -=wanders off to check=-
