Dear Agony Aunt,
I'm trying to update my ROM to use the Open Zaurus 3.5.1
Following the instructions on http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.1/c7x0,c8x0/ (http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.1/c7x0,c8x0/)
I've copied -
update.sh to the root of my CF card.
renamed opie-image.rootfs.img to initrd.bin and copied it to the root of my CF card
renamed zImage.bin.forHusky to zImange.bin and copied it to the root of my CF.
After turning the C860 off, taking the battery out, I've plugged everything back in, then turned the Zaurus on whilst holding on the OK button.
First thing I see after I turn it on is "modprobe: can't locate module devinfo"
It goes through everything it needs to erasing flash etc, then switches to Run Level 6
After that it goes through the boot up process and I get a read_inode() failed for ino #336. That scrolls off the screen for every and every and ever
Has anyone else gotten this or know what might be the cause of this? Have I jsut effectively turned my zaurus into a pretty paper weight?
Any help would appreciated.
Signed,
Desperate.

Dear AA
Try putting Cacko's install.sh and tools.tar on an SD or CF card. Then boot to the installer. One of the options is to format the user partition. Afterward, reboot. This may clear things up.
I had a slightly different but similar problem and that was the advice I got - It worked like a charm.

i just loaded 3.5.1 on my 860, it's very beautiful © but it has several bugs that are killing me. I must load something else, anyone have any suggestions?
At this point I'm thinking about trying to find the jp sharp rom and convert as per:
http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-c700/index2.html (http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-c700/index2.html)
Anyone know if this will work?
Also, anyone know of a working location for the original rom I can use?
Many thanks!

If you want a pda that works without any messing around, just use the cacko rom.
P.S. No slight against OZ or PDAXROM, just a better path than doing the english conversion to the original rom.

Then again, if you do _want_ to mess around in the true sense of Open Source then be welcome to fix the most annoying things and submit patches to us.
