Title: Battery cover compatibility from SL5600 to SL5500
Post by: mussi on December 26, 2003, 08:17:29 am
Hi!

I\'ve been playing with the idea to soup up my SL 5500 with a bit more battery power.

Since the battery of the SL 5500 is pin-compatible with the one from the SL5600, it should fit in the 5500 - just, of course, I\'d like to cover that battery with the appropriate cover as well.

So the question is you can also stick the battery cover of a 5600 onto a 5500 and use the bigger battery. Is this possible?

See this thread on the Zaurus Devnet forums...

But the short answer is yes, the battery from the 5600 will fit into the 5500, however it is taller than the original and you will not be able to slide the battery cover back on.  I did not find any info on the charging characteristics, however, so I\'m not certain if the 5500\'s charging circuit will accurately handle the larger charge.

You will not be able to use either the 5500 or 5600 battery cover with a 5600 battery in a 5500 Zaurus. The back half of the 5600 is a completely different molding to the 5500, even though the front is the same, and they have incorporated part of the raised battery compartment into the back half of the case. This means the 5600 battery cover will not fit the 5500.
