Title: Low power WLAN CF card
Post by: jurwit on December 26, 2003, 05:17:01 pm
Watching the parameters I found that a Socket CF Wireless LAN Card WL6000-320 should drain the battery with the smallest speed. The sleep mode ~20 mA. Is that really true? However, this card is quite expesive.

What can you say about D-Link DCF-660W CF. In a specificatin one can read \"sleep mode below 17 mA\" (Is it really true? typing error? For the sleep mode of the previous ...650W was ~170 mA).

I am considering also ASUS WL-110 (but this one has at sleep mode 110 mA)

Can you please comment on that?

I had a D-Link 660w card for over a year.. it was a great card, but it did drain the battery pretty quickly.  I didn\'t mind with my 760 because of the larger battery.  The card was great, but died eventually from everyday use.  I now have an ambicom card, and it doesn\'t seem to drain the battery as much as the D-link did, but I got better range with the D-link card.

I don\'t know anything about the ASUS card.

Good luck

Thanks offroadgeek. Could you possibly check in your manual if for your D-Link 660w card in sleep mode is 170 mA or 17 mA. From your message I can judge that they were mistaken in a specification.

I don\'t have the manuals for any of my wifi cards...  I usually toss them right away.

Offroadgeek, What is a symbol of your Ambicom WLAN CF card -- WL1100C-CF?  If so, the power consumtion  for stanby is below 100 mA.

So, how long does your battery live with the  ASUS WL-110 CF ?
Was it hard to setup ?

The Linksys WCF12 wlan-cf  is also VERY battery-friendly and is working quite well with the Zaurus.
(AFAIK wellenreiter does not support this card)

Just adding more info:

------          ASUS WL-110
TX Power Consumption: 300 mA
RX Power Consumption:  200 mA
Sleep Mode Power Consumption: 110 mA

-------        D-Link DCF-660W Air Wireless 2.4GHz (802.11b)
* Transmission = < 350ma
* Reception = < 250ma
* Power Save mode = 80mA

--------       Linksys WCF12

(can't find info about this)

Now the questions...
1) Why is "Sleep Mode Power Consumption"so important?? If i dont want to use WiFi, i can take de CF Card out, right??

2)  The "TX Power Consumption" and "RX Power Consumption" aren't the most important information?? What i really should know, is the consuption, when i'm working on WiFi...

Thanks in advance
