Title: algebra, math, equitation etc program for Z
Post by: piotrek on November 10, 2004, 02:32:19 am
Hi dear Z freaks,

I thought that it would be good to have math program with equitation solving, algebra, graphical interface and so on so on. Something similar in idea like mathematica or statistica but of course much simplier. Once, when I was using Atari Portfolio I had great math program similar to that. I dont remember the name but it have great capabilities. It could plot functions, solve equitations with many variables, and many more.
Have you heard about something similar for pdaXrom?

cheers,
Piotr

I never used it myself but maybe you should take a look at it:
http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=394 (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=394)
It's commercial though, 30 bucks.
(Maybe wait if someone who actually used it posts here, I don't know if it's worth the money)

I'm using maxima for computations and gnuplot for plotting. (both have only command line interface)

There's mathomatic in the unstable feed and gnuplot is also there.
Some people trying to compile octave, which is a nice math program too.
All of them are console tools and have very good documentation. I think they fit in the "Something similar in idea like mathematica or statistica but of course much simplier." definition.

Maxima seems to be good too. Can we have an ipkg from it? It's not hard to do, see my post in this thread (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8285&view=findpost&p=51221).

You could also try R.

I'll have to find somewhere new to host my web site and stick my octave and R binaries back up (plus I'll re-compile them for pdaXrom).

lardman - you can put any of your binaries/files on the zug downloads server.. let me know if you want me to setup an account for you.

I used Formulae 1 for a while and actually didn't like it very much, to be honest.  Now, to be fair I haven't tried too many other tools yet, but F1 was somehow very unintuitive, and I can't really explain why.  Go figure.  I'll play with Maxima at some point...

I've got a binary package from eonblueapocalypse (a time ago there was a thread here where I was asking for already compiled maxima).  It works with clisp fine. If you want, I can mail it to you (both clisp and maxima).

I've sent it to you. It's console application so you can use it with every rom (but readline and ncurses needed).

thanks a lot,

BTW, has anyone tried this http://www.hartmath.org/ (http://www.hartmath.org/) its a CAS tool in Java. THere is a port for the zaurus here http://kimux.org/liza/hartmath.shtml (http://kimux.org/liza/hartmath.shtml)
but I am not sure it works in pdaxrom.

Can I have it too, please? My email address is zumi at freestart dot hu. Thank you in advance. (Why not make an ipkg from it?)

Anybody tried to compile Scilab (http://www.scilab.org/)? It looks promising too. I saw a failed try in this (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5619&hl=scilab)  topic, but maybe it will be easier to do with the native SDK. Later I will give it a try, but I hope somebody will be faster than me.

I've successfully compiled maxima and even xmaxima for the pdaxrom, I'll probably make an ipk package soon.

great could you do that, could you make an ipk of the lisp interpreter you have used.

thanks,

What about xcas?
is has been compiled for a previous version of pdaXrom.
Now i always get an error "undefinde symbol"

please recompile it

Gnuplot is in the unstable feed. It was recompiled with VFP, so it's RC5+ ready.
