Title: Please Help
Post by: aereinha on November 10, 2004, 07:56:05 pm
Ok so I know I have been posting questions alot lately but here I go again.  My collie (5500) has oz3.5.1 the opie version.  My problem is that the zaurus freezes when I suspend with or without the cf card in, but especially after I run xmms-embedded, or any other program for more than a couple of minutes.  It even freezes when an alarm on the calander would go off, it beeps once then freezes.  I dont know enough about it to fix it on my own and reflashing doesnt work at all.

Thanks

Tony

What I have found so far is that
a). You probably haven't flashed the right kernel. check to be really really sure you have. (there is a thread on this somewhere around here...Mickey explains it quite clearly.
. On my 5600 (for reasons likely having to do with package testing compulsion) usually freezes if I don't eject the cf BEFORE I suspend, and wait a sec or two, click something to be sure opie is active and working before I reinsert it
c). my 2.2g cf card just disengages it self sometimes for reasons best known to only to itself.... it works best if I terminate opie, mount it, then restart opie.
PLease don't take the idiosyncrasies of my z to be the fault of oe thought... I have some very non oe stuff on there that is likely the culprit (and a pathetic microdrive)

I used the two files from openzaurus.org the intrid.bin and the zimage so if im not mistaken I have the correct kernel....I could be wrong......but I also have read that you need to eject the cf card before suspending, but even if i try to eject the cf card, it freezes while it does the unmounting so it really gets me nowhere.  Everything else works perfectly if only it would stop freezing I would be very happy.

Thanks

I still cant find anything that has fixed the problem....please I need help, I love oz3.5.1, but if I cant get this to stop freezing, I will be forced to go back to another rom.  I can not umount my cf card it freezes whether I click on the icon in the taskbar or use the terminal to umount it.

Hmm, tough. So, I don't have to eject the cf card before suspending.... well, just, I mean, tell us what initrd and zImage EXACTLY you downloaded where. Just to make sure all the details are checked... I don't have any other idea, though... what if you just leave out the cf card from the beginning on? Does that change anything?

Cheers

ok well i played around with the Z without the cf card in and it still froze after about 5minutes.  I got the initrd and zImage from the openzaurus website, I'm using the opie-image, and the 56-8 zimage, all are from the sl5500.  I flashed it correctly, I didnt have this problem with oz3.3.5, so I dont know what else it could be.  I had reflashed the Z many times and everytime it still results in freezing, I guess  I'm the only one with the problem/

Thanks

Hmm, sorry, I have no other idea than to try another kernel. Maybe you could install something like syslog, so you can check the logs after it froze?

Cheers

Can you ssh in? i.e. is it Opie which is freezing, or the whole thing.

I guess I should expand on this better...It freezes the whole thing after it suspends and wont wake up...but if I am ejecting a card from opie...just opie freezes

Hm. I get this on my newly flashed 5500 too. Mine seems to be randomly freezing now. Nothing short of flipping the battery switch will remedy it (which I hate doing). I might just have to switch back to a Sharp ROM

I had a similar problem and uninstalling opie-wirelessapplet solved the problem.
