i want to continue reading my chinese ebooks
Cacko Sharp ROM works for chinese input/display
how about for X11 ROM?
or can anyone give me a direction how to do multilang in X11 ROM?
maybe i can try my best to do it
-
I don't know do the Chinese support RC5? Sorry couldn't resist the poor joke... I'm pretty sure you probably can - i suggest that you look on the net for adding chinese support to any linux system. Get yourself the sources and the zgcc development image and roll (compile) your own for the Z. Good luck with it.

reading chinese, yes.
1. get a unicode font. e.g. mingliu.ttc from your windows xp, or download fireflysung.ttf somewhere on the Internet to avoid license problem.
2. put it into your font path, which is /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/
3. restart xwindows
4. get a ebook reader such as JustReader
5. set your character encoding and fonts correctly and you could view them
6. this works in firefox for web surfing as well
for chinese input, sorry, none yet.

Any problem with the Chinese input? Is it related to the ROM? I need Chinese input as well. Thanks

that's good enough
what about for Big5/GB coding?
most people from HongKong or Taiwan
they don't use UTF8 that often
Can i do the same way for Big5/GB too if i can find the .ttf?
or can i use the .ttf from my Windows system for that?
thanks
-
sorry
one more quick question
how to make Dillo recognize my "fireflysung.ttf" font?
can i choose codec on that?
thanks

My mingliu.ttc can display b5/gb as well, i'm not very familiar with the encoding but i guess they share the same font panel as b5/gb as in unicode, so a unicode font can display b5 encoded characters once you choose the correct character encoding, in short, you do not need an additional b5/gb font at all, just use a unicode font.
and, i do not use dillo so i couldn't help you, i use firefox instead.

firefox is so slow compare to dillo
how do you optimize it
-
well i didn't optimize it at all, since i do not use web browser much.
But i usually just keep firefox opened and put it in the background minimized, and bring it out when i need it, it avoids the long startup time tho.

Take a look at:
* http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Chinese-HOWTO.html (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Chinese-HOWTO.html)
* http://dev.gentoo.org/~liquidx/chinese/chinese-v1.html (http://dev.gentoo.org/~liquidx/chinese/chinese-v1.html)
Do you use chinese on a linux pc?
If you do and give me some hint about what fonts/ input software/ application you use or want to use, I will give a try to compile them/ install them.
Please note that I don't know chinese so some test cases would be nice
like i want to open http://mysite.com (http://mysite.com) with dillo, it's encoded wiht big5 and http://myothersite.com (http://myothersite.com) which is utf-8or I want to edit/read a file like myfile.txt in GB with abiword.
Please also note that I have a family and that i won't be able to work full time on this...
You can drop me a mail pierre dot gaston at gmail dot com we can give s try and see how it goes...

i just want to browse the web with chinese (Big5, GB, UTF8)
as well as in Gaim
not necessary input method
but display them is fine
currently , JustReader able to read chinese txt

Hi, I am using Traditional Chinese (read and input) in my Gentoo Linux box and I also want to do it in my Z as well.
Ususally, I use SCIM (for input) with Gaim to IM with my firends in Traditional Chinese. However, somebody in the fourn reported that SCIM is failed to compile in pdaxrom.

Hi
are you going to setup a chinese page for pdaXrom?
because the cis192 (forgot the exact name of it) don't have any info on pdaXrom for chinese
i currently have an university web page
i can host it anything below 10MB ( i guess it's enough for a text-based page with few ipk )
of course.. on pdaXrom feed too
but we need some testers and people who can compile for us (i don't want to use my Mac for this..becacuse i need my Mac for school, so i don't want to screw it over)
and better if someone can translate the web page into simpilified/traditional chinese
because i can't type chinese well (therefore there's no point using chinese input for me under Z )
drop me a line in my email : samxiao at neoapproach dot net
btw, there're a lot good chinese programs on Cacko ROM
like input method, (even chinese hand recognition (if you use that Japanese OZ program and use Kanji))
hope anyone can import it to pdaXrom

Well, I didn't try anything yet and you probably excpect too much too fast.
One thing that I can tell you: dillo can't be used to read chinese:
Here what I found on its homepage:
" Dillo currently supports ISO-LATIN1 and works internally with this encoding. GTK+-2.x supports UTF-8 but it's too big to be used with Dillo. After a long feasibility analysis FLTK was chosen as the next widget library for Dillo."
" Some comments about Hindi and Chinese: these languages need a special technology to render, and they're currently not supported under FLTK, but the possibility is open. This is, the best path to add support for them in Dillo, when it runs over FLTK, is to add Chinese/Hindi support directly into FLTK. "

yes
i figured it out yesterday
and i sent an email to you already
i was thinking about konqueror-embedded
but that requires Qt to be compiled too
so ... i dun think it's a good option either
anyone got other good choice?
-
Qt is compiled.
konkeror embedded was for the previous rom see the previous feed (http://www.pdaxrom.org/ipk_feed.php?showfeed=stable) maybe it still works.
Another possibilty would be w3m (http://w3m.sourceforge.net/) or one of its siblings w3m-mee (http://pub.ks-and-ks.ne.jp/prog/w3mmee/) which can handle multiple encoding and works quite well.
I allready compiled w3m, it is in the unstable feed I didn't try it with utf8 (for displaying)
i you want to take a look it might work if you start an xterm with (this is from memory
maybe I don't state the option correctly)
xterm +u8 -fn myutf8font
and start
w3m http://mychinesesite.cn (http://mychinesesite.cn)

i tried Konqueror-Embedded
it allows me to pick the font to use
so i guess it's okay for multi-coding
but i can't test it
because whatever i try to access a page
i got "Illegal instruction"
same as my perl, vdesk, mathomatic, many programs
any idea why?
anyways
w3m seem require a libgc
where i can find this for RC5?
thanks
-
hey
i tested konqueror
but always freeze no matter what site i'm trying to access
i found Minimo works for chinese
however, the fonts are so small.. i'm not able to see anything even though i know it's chinese
i can't find any way to put the font size up for Minimo
any knows? it doesn't have preference button
-
Hey, I compiled xcin to input Chinese. However, it requires glib locale data to run. Anyone has them?
