Title: sl5500 roms
Post by: Re@lity on November 14, 2004, 09:19:08 pm
Is there a rom for the 5500 like pdaxrom?

I may be completely wrong, but it looks like pdaxrom & cacko are for the c7xx & c8xx clamshell range?

Basically, I like the idea of a "proper" Linux distro for my Zaurus Sl 5500 - i.e. x like environment, because I'm using Linux on a laptop & I would like to be able to swap between them with the same sort of command set?

I am mainly using the laptop with wireless auditing tools & would love to be able to use them all (or mostly) on the more portable Zaurus.

If there's no real close alternative, is there *any* rom that will happily run the wireless extensions etc

Hi,
you can use Openzaurus 3.5.1 with GPE Image. GPE is X based.
Cheers,

So will OZ 3.5.1 allow manual cli installs & run *normal* Linux progs etc using the usual "make" "make install" etc etc, then run from cli?? Will I have to use a gui installer?

Or do they have to be IPK's ?
If so, can *normal* install files be converted to IPK's very easily??

Sorry for all the questions

Thanks for any info.

I think you have to port you software to the arm architecture. You need to crosscompile or use dev-img. For 3.5.1 I would take openembedded and crosscompile. It is not just run and Go.
There is also poketworkstation project. That is debian. You need a large card for that and a lot of the debian arm packages may run.
